Wohoo, this is my first cultivation attempt. A week after these babys are all 100% they will be in my shotgun FC. It's been 10 days since I nocced up these 1/2 pint BRF jars with 1/4 cc per hole(1cc per jar) You can see one jar is already looking 100% thats the jar I took my tape off of on day 3. (I waited til day 5 with the rest) I was curious on how they would react. Anyways seems like they are coming along.

woo baby I'm excited

Huh. Interesting with the tape, times, and colonization.
Looks like you're good to go! Remember to be patient and let 'em consolidate before birthing.

Golden Teacher, I bought two syringes but decided to only try one to see if I'd fucked up. My second syringe sitting in my drawer is Huatla both purchased from our sponsor sporeworks.
Thanks for all the nice comments guys I'm damn excited. I've quickly learned this hobbies key to success is patience!

Huatla I had horrible luck with, but that doesn't really mean much as I was still figuring things out.
Tips: Make sure to take some GT prints once u get to that point
Are you going to dunk and roll? I recommend it after consolidation
I'd try to find the widemouth halfpints if I were you, ACE hardware will order them for you.
While you're waiting rig up some tyvek/RTV lids for whatever jars you choose to use so next time you can have a better filter than a shiftable layer of dry verm.
Just my 2 cents.

Ahh, I thought these were wide mouth because the lid is as wide as the rest of the jar.
And I planned on submerging the cakes for 24 hours after birth.
I have this tub I haven't drilled holes in yet. I planned on making a Shotgun FC with this 64 quart tub any other suggestions?
Although I'm not quite sure what you mean by "rig up some tyvek/RTV lids"

They are widemouth halfpints, tall rather than short, but still widemouth.

You can if you want, but it's not necessary. People like to get fancy and complicated.

righteous, thanks for all the input again.
no comments on the 64 quart tub? I'm just going to do a RR Shotgun FC, with 1/4 bit holes on all six sides. unless someone else recommends something different for these.
The fc will be placed on the rack in top of my closet, hopefully far away from the contams below.

That might be a big pain in the ass to access for fanning and monitoring.

Then it won't be in the closet. That why I'm here exposing the noob thoughts passing threw my brain. Where would be a typical storage place in my house for this sgfc? I just figured closet would be good if I had company over I wouldn't have to worry about it.

If you need to hide it and stick it in the closet for a few hours thats cool, but typically a bigger room would be better, one that gets good airflow. Keep the fc elevated, you want air to be able to travel up through the perlite, that's what gives you your humidity.

The reason from reading a lot of the more experienced posters posts is that a closet doesn't have as much of an airflow as an open space, for example a kitchen counter or on top of a desk which is kind of the point of the holes all around. If you leave the door of the closet open, it should be fine. I personally would use a fan in the closet to kick start a draft (not aimed at the FC) and that way it would even out. I also use a closet to keep it out of the eyes of my roommates.
No worries, just fan and mist regularly. Good job on getting so far.

expose your jars to light during colinisation :-)
Wait a week once full colinisation is reached to allow the mycelium to consolidate
Dunk fully submerged in water (having the cakes submerged helps hyrdrate the cake as the slight water pressure forces water into the mycelium and substrate)
You your fruiting chamber needs plenty of fae, which the holes provide alot of (and you give it extra with fanning) dont have any sides of your fruiting chamber obstructed yoiu need air to freely be able to flow in. closets are not a good place. also the bottom holes cannot be covered, otherwise humidity can suffer. use cups etc to raise it so air can get undernearth.
Use a spray bottle with a fine mist for misting, and spray so a fine mist falls inside your terrarium, also mist your perlite (4 - 5 times daily) also mist the verm layer of your cakes lightly when it gets dry.
Fan after you mist.
natural daylight IME gave best results, though not always possible. if not use a bulb with a colour temperature around 6500k (energy saving bulbs or fluerescent tubes can be bought in this range) rough 12/12 schedule.

I don't really see what is complicated about a little RTV silicone and 1/4 inch hole covered in tyvek or stuffed with polyfil. These filters can be reused and save you materials, which cost money, after they are built. RTV has many awesome uses...
All comes down to how often you're gonna do batches of cakes. Once a year? stick with the verm layer. All year round? go with some good lids, might cost u 5 buck to make a set and then you'll be set.
I mean we all do things our own ways, another advantage of the RTV lids is no tape on the lids as the injection ports heal themselves...though i guess tape isn't necessary anyway when u have the verm.
You are also able to put more substrate into each jar, make a slightly bigger cake, and when the jars come out you don't have to dump a bunch of dry verm off cuz there isn't any.
Just like denatured alcohol and a cotton ball works for flame sterilization, but a blowtorch is better for many reasons. These aren't expensive upgrades really, and save you time in the long run in my opinion.
64 quarts sounds good for your shotgun.
I have a closet setup and it's going fine. Everyone's conditions are different as well so if it doesn't work for you move it to another area. Trial and error my friend.

That just seems like significantly less gas exchange to me, which would lead to slower colonization. Also, having substrate under the lid which you can't see until you birth your jar doesn't sound that great either.
My personal opinion is that it's best to keep things as simple and consistent as possible when you start out, thereby eliminating as many avenues of failure as possible. The PF Tek as is works great. I see no reason to complicate it. But, like I said, different strokes, for different folks.
