Still sounds neat.
Just to clarify, the bill is passed, done deal, it goes into effect on April 26th. I live in Uruguay, retired from USA.
Awesome. Do you have any links where we can learn more about this?

There are many links, if you google Uruguay + Cannabis in last 24 hours. It's been in the works since early this year, there are three main political parties in Uruguay, and all 3 proposed legalization bills, today, all 3 came together and agreed on this one compromise bill between the 3 parties. Brazil apparently is also set to soon legalize, but I know less of their situation.

I need lots of pot plants, for making my own compost, and bio diesel shit like that. Who can say it should be illegal for me to grow a hundred pounds of weed to see if it makes good compost?
cannabis is best for getting high, atleast the buds are. all the leftovers can go to hash or your compost shizzy.
hemp is for everything else that doesn't involve getting high.

It's like some made-up dreamland legislation proposed by a pothead.
"They should make cannabis cultivation legal... but like, restrict it to like... 8 plants per house or something."

Why restrict it to only 8 plants though? Too much smells good everywhere or what?
It's a reasonable amount considering you can grow it in your front yard without being hassled. 8 plants outdoors with proper care can get huge. Also indoors you could have 8 garbage cans full of soil under HPS and get giant plants that way too. Those eight "plants" with the right conditions could grow to the size of trees and supply beyond what one household could smoke up by itself.
Im not going to use my weed just for smoking.

Maybe you should check your EGO in at the gate, leave all your fantasy-complaints there as well, and just enjoy the fact that someplace, somewhere, cannabis has actually been legalized. Its not about your opinion buuuuuudy
BE HAPPY !!!

In answer to psychoslut's complaint that the bill only accounts for cannabis cultivation, and not for hemp cultivation, it does also account for hemp cultivation, but only under the supervision of a government agency called MGAP, and really only for industrial sized quantities, in this particular bill anyway.
Also, at least one major politician here has already stated that he believes this is only a first step, and that he wants to amend the law soon after it goes into effect, to allow for more plants per house, as well as for the SALE of cannabis. This is the latest on the matter, new today. http://www.elpais.com.uy/110420/pnacio-561308/sociedad/polemica-por-el-alcance-del-proyecto-sobre-marihuana/
I want to add that, for home cultivation/public possession and consumption, you won't be required to obtain any permit/certificate/authorization/doctor's recommendation, nor will any fee/tax be involved. Legal to smoke cannabis in public without any card, and grow cannabis in your home up to 8 plants....I think this makes Uruguay's cannabis laws now the freest in the world.
