Drug suspects refuse to talk
The two suspects arrested during the confiscation of 105 kilos of cocaine by police on Tuesday last week near Villach, Carinthia are refusing to talk, according to police in Salzburg where the two are in detention.
Salzburg Crime Office official Christian Voggenberger said today (Tues): "We have already interrogated both of them three times, but they both refuse to say anything."
Both suspects, a 35-year-old man who was driving the car in which police found the cocaine in four valises in the boot and a 34-year-old woman, were born in Croatia. The man is refusing to talk pending engagement of a Croatian defence attorney, and the woman has said only that she had been unaware of the presence of cocaine in the car.
The man has both Croatian and Canadian citizenship, the woman only Canadian.
Dinko Cvitic, the director of the Croatian anti-corruption office (USKOK), has said that prosecution of the suspects should occur in Croatia, but a Salzburg public prosecutor has said that it would be premature to consider extraditing them to that country.
The prosecutor has added that he is awaiting the results of an international investigation of the case and a determination of the purity of the cocaine before making any decision on next steps.
Austrian police have said that the cocaine, which has a street value of some 80 million Euros, was transported to Europe in a Lear jet from the Caribbean and was to have been stored in Slovenia before being sold on the Italian market.
Slovene police arrested two Croat accomplices in the case last week.

Folks worldwide watch Law and Order reruns, then figure they have the same rights as people in the US.
Global government sounds pretty good every now and then.

Are you saying Austria doesn't have the right to silence? Most countries do.
What are you talking about?
