P. Sub or P. Austr. hopefully
    #14313390 - 04/18/11 07:27 PM (12 years, 10 months ago)

Psylocibe Australiana? or Psilocybe Subaeruginosa?

Habitat:
Found in A.C.T in my backyard in the compost heap.

Gills:
off white/ brown colour
Stem:
2 - 6 cm long, white, hollow.

Cap:
dark brown to light brown convex gills .

Spore print color:
taking spore prints now

Bruising:
a few of them have bruised blue, and the mycelium underneath the bark where they were growing was blue

Other information:
smells like subs Ive picked before but just don't quite look the same,
and were found where i normally discard them after making tea's.

Pictures; not the best quality because its foggy outside and had to take them inside, but someone else pick them and kept ripping out the mycelium so i took a photo of the one that had blueish mycelium,
as the day starts to look better i will upload pictures of the pins, if anyone wants to see them, they look just like P. Subs

It actually looks a little like P. cubensis, but more pictures would help, especially of the stem and underside of the mushroom.

They are probably P. subaeruginosa and definitely an active Psilocybe.

Few more pictures, im still letting the caps sit on some paper to get some more distinct spore prints, but spores are definitely a light purple/ light brown colour

But those few pics, are of close ups of the stems, and a picture of a pin just to show the blue bruising, and where they are growing, do cubensis grow on wood-chips? because i thought they liked to fecal matter...

well i have now 100g wet, if i leave pins there will they keep growing? or is that just wishful thinking :p

and there is alot of wood-chip with obvious mycelium growth on it, if i put that in a fish tank with some moist wood-chips do you think that will sprout?

more pictures of the stem, i just thought it would be way to early for subs to be growing in Canberra....

They're subs for sure. Pins will keep growing if you leave them.

Yeah I saw quite a few kids out in the brindies on sunday most likely hunting for shrooms - I think I'm going to go further up next time.

is there anything i can do with the spore prints other than look at them under a microscope? apparently these woodloving types are hard to cultivate.

Or you can send me one.... I'm in Aus too  would be great

No no no dont bury it probably won't work..
You could follow one of many woodlover teks you can find here at the shroomery..

Sending is no prob . Spores are 100% legal here in aus, it's great!
Next time take the spores on foil or paper, it's easier to see colour. Easier to id...

I will pm you if you want to send

By thy way nice finds

P. australiana and P.subaeruginosa are one and the same species.

P. australiana and P. eucalypta are depreciated synonyms, meaning the names aren't considered valid anymore.

You're mushrooms are Psilocybe subaeruginosa
