I've been having a lot of violent dreams lately...
    #14311742 - 04/18/11 12:33 PM (12 years, 10 months ago)

A few days ago, I dreamed about being some sort of soldier in a war, and I killed several enemies. Last night, I dreamed about getting shot in the foot by a cop.

What do you guys think this may mean? :undecided:

No, I've been living life as usual--violence is usually absent in my dreams, I find it kind of odd that I've been having so many violently-themed dreams in a row...

They haven't been lucid dreams, so it's not like I'm choosing to have them. :smirk:

I don't really believe that dreams are necessarily symbolic of some unconscious desires/emotions, I actually think they're pretty random, and meaningless. I just want to know what people in this forum think about these dreams I've been having, what they believe they may be symbolic of.

Well you could be in a point where your Spirit is transitioning and you are not in tuned to it. You could be engaging in a new environment you do not feel familiar with, you may have lost some close friends or feel a bit lonely. It could be from paranoia you may also be having these dreams due to a recent exposure you had whether through a psychedelic or a deep dream (sometimes in deep dreams we choose to leave the body and go wander the dimensions, we exhaust ourselves immensely and forget of this) or it could be due to shedding a skin.

It's really difficult to define dreams even when you know the person because there is a shadow to us all even we forget to familiarize with, let alone someone I do not know anything about. How old are you? What is your status in your health in comparison to the last 5 years? How are your plans/goals going? When was the last time you took a drug and what is it you believe in? all of these questions and a lot more have something to do with this. You could PM me the answers or scan the palm of your hand or take a pic of it in good resolution and tell me how old you are, I could help you in that way maybe.

Hahaha no worries though I get some intense dreams here and there. Usually a need for me to wake up and get more into my being, prepare for something.

I would say I am more psychologically/emotionally healthy now than I was 5 years ago--I'm as physically healthy as I've ever been.

I don't have any.

I took acid a few weeks ago, and took ecstasy a week before that. I believe in logic/rationality.

I like how you mention "shedding a skin"--I feel like I'm in the process of doing that right now...:strokebeard:

I once had a dream I was violently beating up a friend. We had gotten into an argument in the past that turned physical. Obviously our dreams can play out the violent thoughts and feelings we may hold latent or have held at one point in time.

Dreams can come from and represent many aspects of our being - whether it be thoughts feelings, or id and super ego - to use psychological terms. I'd agree with Jung that we frequently tap into the collection unconscious where all sorts of dreams can be played out - dreams that may not reflect the conscious personality whatsoever.

It could be as simple as you had watched a violent movie before going to bed. Or it may be much more complex, symbolizing an internal war within yourself. One of the good things about keeping a dream journal is you can see which of your dreams repeat, begging for attention. Did you have a bad feeling or a good feeling when waking up from the dream, how do you feel about it now?

I had an odd feeling upon awakening, it's sort of hard to explain. I kind of missed the dream, because it was exciting, and seemed so real...

I kind of felt like I was still the person I was in the dream when I woke up.

Ok well, if it is shedding a skin and you feel it is that, make sure you are aware of your old habits that must go. That goes to say, when we shed a skin, we often feel at war with ourselves, sometimes we become angry, low tempered, frustrated, we will cling onto the familiars, maybe not leave our home, anything can happen that is unusual. Give enough to the new skin to be able to shed the old. Like a snake, the old skin must be ready to fall before the new one is born but if you are holding dead skin because it seems familiar, let it go.

If it was me, I would write down my dreams in as much detail as I could right when I woke up and enter the dream consciousness when you are wide awake. Analyze them or just ponder them. Allow them to surface into your being to give you more clarity. And just don't worry if you can, have no fears because everything happens just as it needs to. No late, no early, just is.

Good luck on your interpretations! Love and blessings!

That can happen to me sometimes when I tap into a deeper more authentic part of my being during dream state then wake up and have the connection present. Not sure if that makes sense?

I know it may contradict your beliefs, but consider you were/are that person in the dream. I'd imagine emotionally powerful experiences traverse the entire Self. Many of my dreams lately have dealt with the idea of reincarnation - that we are living many lives simultaneously, connected by a part of ourselves that exists outside of time, just like the dreamworld. When it comes to dreams, our feelings upon awakening is telling.

It seems like you're trying to say that who you are in your dreams is a more authentic, or natural version than who you are when you're awake.

I feel like we become who we'd like to be when we're dreaming, and/or that we express certain repressed parts of ourselves that do not escape during waking life.

No I mean in dream time, we are very connected with our higher self. It is a very spiritual experience. Many elders of the old say that the dream world is our second life; others say it is our waking world and this is an illusion. In a lucid dream, one can have access to unlimited knowledge if they transcend the confusion. When you dream of being someone "else" and wake up feeling like him/her, you have tapped into that essence and when you "wake up" you are still connected with that essence.

I apologize for any confusion.

Yea man. Lucid dreams are amazing if you know how to work with them. Most people, out of ignorance, simply try and be "God" in the dream-scape, manipulate the dream, have sex, etc. I'm not saying these things are "wrong", but there is so much more available - precognition, healing, gaining knowledge from the higher self (the energy behind the dream). I've read quite a few books on LDs, and this one is my favorite. Poid you should check this one out if you want to see the potential of dreaming, specifically lucid dreaming.
