noob idea, about a rheostat and a ultrasonic humidifier
    #14313358 - 04/18/11 07:21 PM (12 years, 9 months ago)

hey guys, i think i may have used my brain powers for good!

i use a ZooMed rheostat to heat my incubation chamber, but since its really a coleman cooler and insulation is a wonderful thing, its always on its lowest setting.
i also have an ultrosonic fogger, with and adjustable output.

i've read that IF i do decide to use the fogger, versus taking other routes, that fog/mist has to be super wispy/barely visible.

with those ideas in mind, with the fogger on its lowest setting, plugged into a timer, then into the rheostat (also on its lowest setting), i get what seems to be the textbook perfect fog.

so, if anyone has any 2 cents to throw in, please do, because im just a noob with an idea.

(it also feels great to finely post something of some worth, i get all my ideas from you guys) :bow2:

You should never use a rheostat to control an AC appliance.  It's a fire hazard will also risk burning up the device.  AC circuits are controlled by frequency or chopping off part of the sine wave, but not by limiting current throughout the whole wave.

You don't need to be using an incubator, and you don't need a fogger.  Perlite will give you 99% humidity in a terrarium, and a cool mist without a fogger will give you 90% or better in a mini-greenhouse.  A fogger runs the risk of saturating the air and/or the substrate, which you don't want.  For a substrate to perform properly, it should be losing moisture due to evaporation.

when i tried to stop being a noob, all i had was failure.. its MUCH easier to just be a noob and listen to what the experts say.

Sure i consider myself well versed by now.. but mushroom cultivation is not my life... it IS RRs life.. so listen.

Although i may advise others in a general way regarding all types of mushroom grows, and may even post question from other forums about growing "active" mushrooms, i only grow non-"active" mushrooms and edibles.
