As you can see, Silversoul6, the Israelis voted Barak out for a pretty good reason. No matter how much land they give, it?ll never bring peace.

After War of 1967 The Golan Heights were taken from Syria, b/c Syria was bombing Israel from the Golan Heights prior to the war. After Syria was defeated, Israel had no reason to give back this land.

According to UN Resolution 181, Palestine was partitioned into two states, one Jewish and one Arab. The Jewish community of Palestine accepted partition despite the small size and strategic vulnerability of the proposed state. Palestine had Gaza, West Bank, Jerusalem, most of the Galilee in the North, and parts of the Negev desert in the South. Yet Israel was attacked on all sides in 1967, and the loser lost land as a result.

According to Barak?s proposal, the width of Israel would be divided in two. And it?d be impossible for Israel to defend itself against Palestinian extremists. Including splitting Jerusalem in half, this would be like Berlin.

Sharon?s approach is more realistic. He has found that Arafat has been supporting terrorist activities in Israel, so a new Palestinian authority has to be established and Arafat gone. And Sharon would like to return 43% of the land.

I believe this whole situation can be significantly improved if the terrorist activity was removed. One of the problems for the last eight years was Clinton giving credibility to a terrorist leader. Now with a new Palestinian authority coming to be, Arafat doesn?t have as much authority and perhaps there?ll be more progress toward a resolution. 10 years ago, I?d agree, all hell would break loose if Arafat was killed but now he?s just dust in the wind.
