Cob surrounding azure wood chip
    #1431283 - 04/05/03 12:15 PM (21 years, 17 days ago)

Do you think there is some way to save some mycelium from woodchips that have been caught by cobweb?
Spawned on chips did't colonize(suffocated), other mixture with flour was completely taken over from the grey fuzz....

How will you act if these were the last azure chips left on earth?
Tell me yours...
There are chips left for 5 experiments :ooo:

- maybe try to get less or unaffected peice to return to dish and try to get pure culture
- az's cold tolerant - maybe can back down cob in fridge and attack with peroxide water (slim I know...)
I hate it when this happens - have never been able to clean dirty spores but culture seems more hopeful

Take a portion which is not contaminated and dunk it in water:bleach solution or perioxide:water solution for 24 to 48 hours. While you're wating, sterilize more substrate and get ready for transfer.

I found another little baggie with chips, it shows some growth that doesen't look like cobweb to me.
Does D. dendroides show such rhizomorphic "arms"? They're very thin compared with cubensis in jars or casings, maybe beacause lack of feeding in the bag?

Thank you all again!

Do you really think a woodchip w/ mycelial growth would last in either solution for that amount of time?

Depends on how strong the solution is.
In 1:100 (bleach:water) can last more than a month, 5:100 less than one week.

where is the cobweb? the myc in the pic seems quite healthy, just do a 12 hr dip in peroxidated water, you should be fine. for prudency, you may want to go back to agar to ensure a pure culture
