13 arrested at Coachella festival today on drug, alcohol charges
Thirteen people were arrested by 9 p.m. Sunday on the third and final day of this year's Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival.
The festival's first two days saw about 36 arrests for various crimes, including drug use, public intoxication and trespassing. By late afternoon Sunday, seven people had been arrested for drug- and alcohol-related offenses, and 46 trespassers were shown the door, said Indio police spokesman Ben Guitron.
Trespassing was a significant problem for the festival in previous years, but this year police largely kept a lid on it, according to Guitron. In addition to the 46 trespassers ejected today, about 216 people were removed from the venue for trespassing on Friday and Saturday, he said.
The festival at the Empire Polo Club featured about 120 acts spread across six stages. Sunday's lineup included the indie rockers The Bloody Beetroots, hip-hop stars Kanye West and Wiz Khaflia, and 1980s pop group Duran Duran.
Admission for the festival, indicated by a computer-chipped wristband instead of printed tickets, started at around $300.
The festival coincided with a heat wave that pushed temperatures far above normal levels, reaching the high 90s Sunday.
Festival promoter Goldenvoice doesn't make attendance figures public, but about 80,000 people or more are expected to have attended this year's edition of the Coachella Valley festival.
Next weekend, the same venue hosts the Big 4 Festival, featuring metal bands such as Metallica. The Stagecoach Festival, Coachella's country cousin, starts April 30, with headliners including Loretta Lynn.

That electronic wristband thing is going to completely fuck everyone sneaking into shows these days. They had those for day passes at gathering of the vibes last year and it made it impossible to do ANYTHING if you didn't have the actually weekend pass. You couldn't even go into the campground.
I wonder how much money it costs to make electronic wristbands, as opposed to letting those 300 people sneak in. after all they are collecting 24,000,000 dollars just on ticket sales. Greedy fucks.

I think the artists get paid whether I sneak in or not. They make their money of merch at small shows, not a fucking festival. The people making the money there are huge corporations like Clear Channel.
I buy plenty of merch while I'm at festivals too, and I garauntee they get more profit off a shirt and a hoodie then they do off the ticket I avoided buying.
The bands wernt the ones putting electronic chips in your wristbands either, the production company of the festival is.
And not only do these chipped bracelets stop people from sneaking in but they also track you. They see how many times you go from the camping area to the stage, they seperate the stage area into multiple areas and track how many times you go in and out of there. They are all individual serial numbers, so who knows what will become of this electronic bracelets as time goes on.
I could imagine a kid being seen selling something, and instead of busting him right there, they could track everywhere he went all weekend because he has to pass through the search gate everytime he goes to see a band.
Fuck electronic bracelets.

Fuck the wristbands. I'm vehemently opposed to being tracked. I'm sure there are much better, less invasive ways to make sure people don't sneak in.
I find it funny that they call The Bloody Beetroots indie rockers. The only similarity between The Blood Beetroots and indie rock is that I hate both of them.
