Blue cakes

SWIM has a question about a few cakes: Out of 5 cakes in a terrarium, all are noticably blue. The color is intense on these cakes. No bad odors are coming from the cakes and SWIM has tried the fruits of his/her labor twice with no ill effects. SWIM is sure this is bluing from bruising, but wants to hear if others have had intense bluing on cakes before. From the looks of these cakes, SWIM is just gonna eat em as is or try tea. If all that blue is psilocybin, then someone hit the jackpot. This hobby is different each and every time...............................

I think it means that the cake is dehydrated Did you dunk them before putting them in the terarium?

Bluing is normal. Often it is a sign of excesive handling or that the cake is drying out.
Why on earth would you eat the cakes instead of growing them out? You will get so much more out of the cakes if you grow the shrooms out. It really is stupid to do a cake tea unless for some specific reason you need to do so.
Just because they are really blue doesn't mean that they are stronger in psylocybin. It just means that you have handled them too much, they are drying out, or they are oxidizing. It is actually better if they don't turn blue.

SWIM is definately not going to make tea from the cakes until s/he gets a few more flushes. They weren't dunked after birthing but will be before the second flush. First flush was better than expected which makes this lingering snow a little easier to take. SWIM has had bluing from dehydrated cakes before but they were always a little grayer, or more silvery. The bluing on these cakes is mostly on fluffy mycelium and is an intense blue. Either way, SWIM and his significant other had a great time last night on their first trip together. Thanks for the replies....
