i am new at this and have been searching the forums for quite some time.. my first attempt at growing was brown rice flower and vermiculite at a temperature of 85 degree. i lost 10 of twelve jars to green mold located at the top of the jar and moving down. my second is the same conditions with 8 gone already... someone give me something that may help fight green pleese, this is pretty crappy.

pressure cook at 15 psi for one hour? Hydrogen Peroxide with water? Salt?
Wash your hands before innoculating. Gloves?
Look in the FAQ at the top of the page.

I boiled both sets for an hour. i am actually asking specifically about green mold in hopes that someone has had the same problem before. i think the salt is only for mold on caseings being that you shouldnt open the jars. maby if i mixed a small amount of salt in the layer of strait vermiculite at the top it might help? anyone have an idea?

Invest in a pressure cooker and the green will go away.

it would help if you told us at what point in the growth stage it was getting infected with the green. Is it always starting at the top? Whatever you can.
This info will help us determine the cause of your green mold and help us to advise you on what you need to do to get rid of it.

the jars are usually anywhere from 9- 15 days into colinaization. i never see green at the bottom of the jar, only at the top and then when i dump them i see that the middle top is all green as well. maby if i put some spores in the center instead of just at the side it would colonize and fight off the green before it becomes infected.. but then again i dont really know. any thoughts?

I am growing for the first time right now, also using jars. Two of my jars of the original 12 have fallen to brown mold, one jar cracked, but the remaining jars seem to be almost fully colonized, none of them having signs of green mold. I think I used the same technique as you, boiling, so I don't know where the difference is. You did mix water along with the verm and the brf right? Also, how did you protect the jars? I just left a layer of dry vermiculate on the top of the cakes to keep contaminants out.
