(Lucid) Dream Forum
    #14308726 - 04/17/11 08:38 PM (12 years, 10 months ago)

:sleep:Why don't we have one? I read many dream reports and trip reports and see how beautifully similar they are, and how intertwined the two can be. Yet, dreams are so unique; complete immersion into ones own reality instead of simply transforming the perceived external. Iv read several dream reports on erowid and such but they are so limited/set in stone, If the shroomery had an active dream forum with a lucid subcatagory it would be a paradise for dreaming techniques and mental exploration/expression. If we so seriously embrace waking altered states why not sleeping? To leave dreams at the pub is to not give them enough credit. Nothing to lose and everything to gain:sunny:

I can see the stagnancy of such a forum in an instant, if it had been around for a while.

It's an interesting subject, and there are many. Look elsewhere on the net for more specific communities related to lucid dreaming if you want to go deeper or just go on the results from shroomery search engine.

I've had extremely lucid dreams a couple of times a week for my whole life; people always tell me I make crazy sounds and move around alot in my sleep.

I think some people are just born that way.

I would simply like a place on here purely dedicated to sharing dreams. They seem to be one of the purest forms of imagination, thinking so far out of the box and giving truly subjective realizations that would be impossible to reach in a waking state; and perhaps even in trips.

Last night I had a dream where I was essentially living a video game; traveling through a building with an AK-47 and a whole bunch of other equipment. Looking down my mind was blown by the feeling of holding the gun and jumping around so freely with it as compared to simply watching someone act out my hand eye coordination; I truly experienced the game and it felt:Awemazing:. I walked through a door after gunning down some enemies only to find myself flying off the summit of a mountain(there was an oasis on the summit) on a skateboard. I ended up falling through to my room once I hit the bottom of the mountain; several of my old friends who were lost along the path of life showed up and handed me an expensive looking grinder filled with weed. We ran around my room, which was really more like a jungle gym or maze than it was my room; I felt every aspect of the high, stunning and childlike. It was a mixture between wonder, euphoria, and nostalgia where I truly felt emotion as compared to my nearly bleak waking life. All my memories and perspectives seemed to blend together into one. I don't play that many videogames anymore, haven't skateboarded in 5 or 6 years, and haven't smoked weed in almost 2 months; this was an independent creation of the mind.

The mechanisms involved in dreams are so infinite that Im sure this forum would never run out. Being able to tie in reality and the dream and the differentiation add another layer to the complexity of this world. Kinda like squaring the number of dream possibilities.

For instance the night before my first trip I had a dream that I was getting abducted by aliens, anticipation and wonder played such a pivotal role in this dream but more than just that It told the story perfectly. My in dream phone started changing time as the day and night flipped end over end; when getting pulled up into the ship all I could think is that this would happen again and again, day after day and I would have now way of preventing it without the memory of said incident. The thought process and every sense of perception have a illogical mind of their own leading to very interesting outcomes.

To make it even more complex I have tried a variety of different drugs that alter dreams such as Saline capensis, valerian root, mugwort, etc. Each one has had their own noticeable affect on the dream experience.

The final blow is lucid dreams which make the possibilities truly infinite.

I would love to share and read these everyday, having read many beautiful lucid dreams from my searches. Still I feel that it takes something truly lucky to bring a person to share those. With a forum dedicated entirely to sharing dreams like trip reports we can discuss all we love about the inner world of those gods within us all

Im not willing to leave the shroomery to find a dream forum, this is home to me; would you rather all the dreamers go elsewhere in order to share their experience?

I agree that the dreamscapes are often undervalued and am also interested in contemplations on them, but i do'nt feel that the topic warrants a sub-forum.  However, i have a proposal that may suit as a sufficient outlet for the dreamers out there:

In the o.d.d. sub-forum there is a long going topic called "What's currently active in your system" wherein a number of regulars post what substances are influencing their consciousness at the time of posting, and one may also contribute further discussion within shall one feel inclined to do so.

Using that thread as a base for inspiration, my advice would be for a well regarded member to start a thread entitled something along the lines of "Whereso didst thou venture last slumber?".  Okay, a more mundane title would likely make the grade, but i'm sure you get the idea.  IMO, the thread would find itself most comfortable in the S&M sub-forum.  And i would also strongly advise that the thread be "stickied" as it may not get enough initial contribution to continually sustain itself.  In fact, it would deserve to be stickied as the topic lends itself to limitless input transmitted from the infinite bounds of an individual's slumber spaces.

Within, contributors to the thread would optimally be free to describe their recent encounters, be it derived by anything from just vague happenings of recollection to those adventures of the extremely vivid, lucid, "o.b.e.", or simply bizarre sort.  Naturally, one would also be entitled to contribute any extraneous contemplations, theories, techniques, or whatever within if desired, just as long as it mostly sticks to the malleable topic in question.

Attempts at concentrated discussion over a specific dream related topic that one perceives as being of especial importance might still best be served through the creation of individual topics within the appropriate sub-forums currently available, but i believe that the latter suggestion of a stickied thread would give shroomerites a well sufficient outlet to contribute experiences and discussion of subjective worth.  IMO, this would potentially dissuade the oversaturation of current sub-forums with new threads of similar consistency or of little interest to the community at large, as well as negate the need for a completely new sub-forum.

Just something to consider(and i doubt that i'm the first to consider or propose something like this).

Sorry for the late response, been busy as hell.

I like the idea of a what did you dream last night type thread or section.

Compared to a forum I think this may receive a limited number of viewers as long threads often ward off newcomers and keep it down to the original group. If we had a full forum that would create a place for the dreamers to go exploring. With the ability to make new posts in a place designed around dreams people would get more focus on their specific concepts/ideas

I still like the idea of a "what did you dream last night" thread though, go create it wherever you will, post a link to it for us to join, and Ill do my best to get it started and keep it going.
