When brewing beers and ales, there are primary and secondary fermenters. The primary fermenter can be as simple as a clean plastic (preferably food-grade) wastebasket that can be covered with a plastic sheet or dropcloth and fastened with a large elastic band . After the first fermentation, the ale or beer is siphoned into a container like a 5 gallon carboy (like a water cooler container) that has a narrow neck that can be fitted with a rubber stopper holding a fermentation lock which allows gasses to bubble out but no contaminants to enter. You can find the fermenters and fermentation lock at brewing sites on line...for example the EC Kraus (sp?) Company...hope this helps...

Brewing beer, wine, mead...they're all easy to do provided you have the right information and access to supplies. Easier than growing mushrooms, quicker than growing cannabis, and you can control the ingredients that go in. Most commercial American beer really can't be called that - there are chemicals added to give it "body", improve the appearance of the head, etc. Dozens of adulterants that they are not required to list on the label are going into your body. I always stuck to the German method of brewing...no more than 5 ingredients. My policy has always been, be self-sufficient when it comes to "recreational supplies".
