Rye Vs. WBS

Ok so I'm thinking of going to a bulk method pretty soon and would like to ask of everyone what is better as a grain, rye or WBS. I should be able to get the rye pretty easily, and WBS is friggin everywhere and cheaper. So what do ya suggest?

i think rye is a bit easier cause you dont have to fish out all the extra seeds like you do with bird seed. But bird seed is uber cheap also. I personally use WBS because it is easier to get and its alot cheaper

I think rye has a higher nutrition content. Mixed grains works super awesome too. I add rye to wbs all the time with great results

I think the extra work is worth it if it is cheaper and easy to find. Is the colonize time good with WBS? I would think so myself. Thanks for the input though I will prolly start a grow log when I get around to the start of everything.

All the extra work isnt neccasary IMHO. All I do is pour boiling water so that it covers 1/3 more of my grain and let it sit for a cpl hours. Then dry it out to the right moisture. Ive never had any issues doing rye or wbs this way

I dont fish anything out anyway
Sunflower seeds dont cause no harm.
Im not going to suggest either because its your choice. I use WBS because its easier for me to come by. Whatever floats your boat tho

Really? I have been following Docs wild bird seed tek and it says you have to pick out all the floaters.. I'm gonna have to try that next time i use WBS!

Prolly gonna go with WBS because it is so easy to get and cheap as dirt. Thanks for the good response everyone. Any have a favorite strain for bulk, even though it dont really matter what the strain is its all just a cube in the end.

Its a practice alot of people follow, picking out the sunflower seeds or floaters. I just dont follow that.

Fooman's WBS Tek is really easy, too. I suggest that if you use WBS, spend a little more to get a brand with no cracked corn. It smells gross and creates a slime.
Picking out the sunflower seeds is unnecessary.

WBS is a PITA. Its hard to handle and ends up all over your kitchen. Its dirty and tends to stick together in the jars. On the other hand it is cheap...

What company makes that, where to buy? I can see that slime would be bad too easy to mistake for a contam and vice versa.

It's easier, and less messy if you use filter or turkey bags.

Most WBS brands usually have a brand of mixed WBS that contains cracked corn, than a little more expensive "Deluxe" brand that doesn't. In my opinion, it's worth it to avoid the cracked corn, though it is usable.

There was actually a good thread McDude started a few weeks ago about rye vs. WBS: http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/14091644#14091644
Lots of opinions, you might want to read it. But I think it does just come down to opinion.

Every time I do wbs I get bacteria but tetricale or rye work very well for me.

both have perks. i like WBS for the sake of spawning to bulk (typically smaller seeds = more contact points when broken up)
