ID Request
    #14308605 - 04/17/11 08:14 PM (12 years, 10 months ago)

Sorry if my description isn't very good, but I'm very new to this. Pictures are at the bottom.

* Habitat: Found in woods growing from under a rotten log about 5 feet from a seasonal creek in eastern Missouri, near St. Louis. Found after a couple days of rain, so the ground was fairly moist.

* Characteristics of the gills: Gills are brown as seen best in the 2nd picture. Gills aren't attached.

* Characteristics of the stem: Stem is about 1" long and thin, about 2-3 millimeters in diameter. It was lighter colored when picked but has now bruised to dark brown/black. It was smooth and I think it was solid, but I can't tell for sure because it is dried now (sorry).

* Characteristics of the cap: 1-1.5 cm in diameter, the pattern/color of the cap can be seen in the first picture. It is smooth and rounded.

* Spore print color: Sorry if this means it can't be identified, but since I'm new to this I didn't know about spore prints until it was dried out so I think it's too late to make one now. I know it's one of the most important things but I thought you might be able to make an ID without it.

* Color that the mushroom bruises: The stem bruised dark brown/black but there was no bruising to the cap.

* Scent of the mushroom: No scent.

Thanks for helping me out, I understand if you can't ID it because I'm a noob and didn't do a spore print.

I resized the images, so they should be much better now.

Galerina marginata seems likely.
