Seattle morels

Never expected this on my walk today. It's been chilly enough to keep the bugs away, these were all in pristine shape. The only hint I'm giving is in the post title, and I found them today. Still in the process of cleaning Normally I saute in butter and freeze in portions, but there are just too damn many. . .drying the whole lot of 'em. Running out of racks, even the box fan is going to need the expansion setup!
I've found morels in Seattle city limits before, but nothing like this There were at least two dozen patches, probably more I didn't get to. And in the mix are some of the biggest I've EVER found, and not a bug to be seen. I had to invert and tie up my sweatshirt to make a second bag, even that got full. It had to be between 10-15 pounds. I had to stop and rest a few times on the way back to the parking lot [and I'm not that old].
It just snowed not too far north last week, I wasn't planning on hitting the mountains for a few more weeks!
Will post a final post-cleaning pic soon. Psyched!

Very cool find!!!
I have noticed the landscape morels (Morchella "importuna") are still great, but lacking in flavor when compared to the other species I have tried.

Sweet finds man. Glad to see they are out for sure. Some of those are huge
-------------------- Having lived through an existence close to nature, one accepts the small and simple things as most important in life. Sun, wind, rain and snow. The sounds birds make, smells of fresh wild flowers. Love of all kinds, from friends and family, thy self and our neighbors. Beautiful sunrises to the darkest clouds dancing above in the sky. To forgive, learn, share and express. This is the only thing a man such as myself can ask for. What comes as the result is nothing short of the core of human existence, to truly live free in body and mind.

Anyone ever notice how some of the coolest finds are ones that you find by accident or when you're not looking?

sweet find suntzu, thanks for posting it. I haven't even bothered hunting yet due to the cool temps... probably gonna scope out some spots in central WA this weekend, have a feeling it's still early over there, but seeing this definitely gave me a little more motivation ...

Thanks all. . .Ma Nature did the hard work, I was just lucky. I will take credit for spotting the first [huge] ones from at least a hundred feet away, though
Yeah, I agree, it seems too early for the 'real' spots out east. I have a friend out on the other side of the pass saying it's still on the verge of snowing; he's seen Gyromitra and Verpa, but not even one baby morel yet.
That's why this really didn't make sense to me. I know morels adhere to no one rule, but I think of big flushes like this after a few days of 70+ weather and/or a string of warm nights, [in combination with rain]. I've had my head up my ass recently, but up until last weekend hasn't it been drizzly and frigid for an entire month?? I've been so busy and stuck indoors I honestly can't recall.
