Nice man!
Are the Gyromitra esculenta a little early for your neck of the woods? I was finding them mid-may last year.
Did a little research on the skunk cabbage - it has some interesting medicinal properties.

I wouldn't say they're early. Eight days earlier than last year, but I knew where they would be and jumped 'em a little young.

These are the last of the skunk cabbage flowers. What'd you find out? Don't they contain calcium oxalate?

"American Indians used root for cramps, convulsions, whooping cough, toothaches, root poulticed for wounds, underarm deodorant. Leaf poulticed to reduce swelling, ate dried root to stop epileptic seizures. Subsequently used by physicians as antispasmodic for epilepsy, sapsmodic coughs, asthma; used externally in lotions for itching, rheumatism; diuretic; emetic in large doses. Micmac sniff the root to relieve migraines." - Eastern/Central Medicinal Plants and Herbs by Steven Foster and James A. Duke pg. 229-230
Not sure about calcium oxalate. It also says the roots can be toxic and the leaves need to be dried first.

Cool! The next time I'm out, I'll stick a leaf under each arm and see if it makes it better or worse.
