New here - Mushrooms growing from wood chippings in garden

Hello my loves. I just registered here a few minutes ago because i've noticed some mushrooms growing from the wood chippings out my front garden. The wood chippings have only been there less than a year and the mushrooms certainly couldn't have been there more than a couple of days because i'd have noticed them. I think they may be morchella elata but i'm not certain as I have zero shroom experience. Can any of you help please? Pics below.

Eatable.... Yummy
Not active... But people pay money for them to eat!
Welcome to Shroomery!
Ps... Cook, don't eat raw

Righto, can't sell em so have to eat them, gotcha. How soon should I pick them? They're already looking a little shrivelled.

Cut them at the base of the stem with a knife. You can soak them in water for a little while to rehydrate them.

You should be wary of wild mushrooms, but those are definitely morels. If you're still nervous you can cut them in half, true morels are hollow in the middle of the stem.
You can look up morel recipes but I think a lot of people like to simply sautee them with oil/butter and salt and pepper.

Cut them in half anyways to clean and cook them... Don't be nervous, but take it slow and cook them well. Let us know how it goes.

Man I gotta drive at least an hour to find those suckers! Enjoy!!!

I wonder if the source of the wood chippings have anything to do with it? Could they have had some spores in them or something?

No not at all. A few insidious trees but none within 100 metres. It's a very urban environment.

I remember hearing that morels, though mostly mycorrhizal, sometimes fruit off of ash like after forest fires. So I hear they even popped up in an old grill which had been sitting outside.
