Raw oysters on the half shell

I think that I could eat six or eight dozen of them right now. What say ye pub? Do you like the oysters on the half shell? Or do they remind you of eating a loogie? I'm drinking a badass homemade bloody mary and me thinks that I could devour a shit ton of them right now. Unfortunately they are a little hard to come by in the midwest.

I too, would like some right now.
Like, this very second.
With horseradish, hot sauce, and saltines.

No, I've never shucked them so if there ever was one in them I doubt it would make it to the table.

Take the opportunity, man.
The texture is weird but the flavors are amazing.

Yep, squeeze a little lemon over them and maybe a bit of horseradish and a drop of hot sauce or a bit of coctail sauce and

Eating filter feeders seems pretty sketch to me. I love smoked oysters though, I eat 'em for lunch every now and then.

I tried them and didn't like them, even battered and fried they were grose. But the last time I tried them was like 10 years ago so I might like them now. I'm gonna try some the next chance I get. Thanks.

Now that sounds good, anything wrapped in bacon is delicious.
Oh, and did anybody else think of this when they read the thread title?

I eat them just about anyway they're prepared other than oyster dressing and those tiny smoked oysters in a tin

most oysters dont produce a pearl and the quality of the ones in the types you'd eat is poor
I've found a few starters but they hadn't become actual pearls

all that's available to me currently are canned or in the tubs, no place around here carries fresh other than an oyster bar

Yeah, the texture is something that a lot of people have a problem with so I understand how people can be averse to trying them. And as far as them being filter feeders, there is some merit to that kind of thinking so it's good to know where they come from and out of what sort of waters. There is certainly a difference between oysters harvested from known locations versus oysters of an unknown, dubious origin. The difference is in the taste. A good oyster will have such a delicate flavor compared to it's monstrous appearance. It won't be overly fishy and will have a mild and fresh taste. Some oysters I've had at Chinese buffets tasted metallic and bitter and I thought that I would probably end up dead after eating them.
