I have a friend who is thinking about joining this group. Could some with more experience take a minute to look at the LI species list and let him know if it is worth while going hunting with this group? http://www.limyco.org/

Well their list has Gymnopilus spectabilis, Psilocybe semilanceata and Psilocybe caerulipes. Well liberty caps have been found in Upper State New York. Not sure about Long Island though. At least no mycolical mention of it, espeially since Gry Lincoff, editor of the Audubon Filed Guide does not mention it in his book. HE is also the head of the New york botanical Gardens and has picked Big Laughing Gyms in Central Park, as has Sara Ann Friedmann, author of Celebrating the Wild Mushroom. That leaves the P. caerulipes and the Big laughing Gym.. Gyms are a fall shroom and P. caerulipes grows June, July and August. mj AS for joining mycological societies, They are nuumber one into edibles first foremost and last. A few members are probably interested in psychoactive ones but you can sharpen your ID skills by being part of such a group of people. They also know about the magic shrooms but usually are not interested. Join and feel people out. thats what discovery is all about. mj

Wow it is crazy, but like John said when you are new, you can't assume that they are going to lead you to the promised land or log for that matter. It is up to my friend to get some books for out local area N.E and NY and chat it up to folks around here.. Thanx everyone so far..........

where can i find more information on Psilocybe caerulipes?
this seems to be one of the most elusive psilocybes in north america,
i have done plenty of research and i know its habitats and such, i think i may have even found area's in the upper penninsula of michigan that had them.
i am just curious if there is any other available info on this species, or if the general community here has an opinion they would like to voice,
thanks

This species has been collected in small quantities a few years ago in Cincinnati, Ohio in a garden bed in mulch.
Pictues were posted here on several ocassions.
Redbone collectred them somewhere in the northeast of the usa.
Alexander Smith has a photo in his guide to Eastern Mushrrooms opf the USA. He was a mycologist who did taxonomy and worked ont he first monograph of the US PNW's Psilocybes and a few mexican along with Rold Singer. Smith was witht he U of Mich and Singer witht he u of Chicago and he worked int he Museun m of Natural History.
Not muuch more. I can scan the pages from Guzm?n's book for you in a few days.
