Accidental removal of mycelial surface harvesting - requesting simple advice!

At 7am today, 73.18g of BEAUTIFUL! fresh cambodian were harvested - blaming the time at which the person woke up to do so, since she usually only does wake up at around midday, a rather large mushroom was picked along a cm-long piece of mycelial surface. The question is: now suggestively more prone to contamination, should it be dunked (as an after-flush "requirement") or first given sufficient time for the mycelium to growth on the spot? It's a cake. If the latter option, I assume it should be put in a dark place not to further trigger mushrooms.
Mention this to me!

There's not much you can do to repair the damage, but in the future, cut the mushrooms off at the base, leaving the stump attached to the substrate. If you try to 'twist and pull', you damage the substrate, and these wounds do leave an opening for molds.
If you have some pasteurized casing material, you can fill in the wound with that, but it really doesn't help much. RR

So, RR, is cutting at the base the preferred harvest method? What effect does this have on subsequent flushes?

None. That's why it's the proper method. Disturbing the substrate does impact future flushes. RR

Well, goddamn, that's good to know. I'd much rather do that than twist out half my sub, which is what I can't seem to avoid. Thanks.

Interesting... everything I've read says to twist at the base.
Do you use a knife? scissors? sterilized?

There's not a commercial mushroom farm in the world which does that. They all cut off the mushrooms at the base with a sharp knife. There's an awful lot that new growers can learn from those who have been doing it for a living for over 100 years. RR

Well, to be honest, it can be very hard to discern the evolution of best practices on the shroomery, even with extensive reading. You sometimes have to stumble across policy shifts in random threads. I just got done reading several posts within the past couple of years where you infer removal by twisting, making no reference to cutting fruit bodies at harvest time.
I am not criticizing anyone, simply pointing out that unfortunately there is no cohesive evolutionary guideline to best practices on the Shroomery, at least to my knowledge. There are a lot of conflicting methods here, many of which work perfectly well for their respective purveyors.
