Hello all. I don't have any pics of what appears to be scale eating my cactus, but I would like to identify the problem and resolve it as soon as possible. My cactus appears to have black heads scattered around the top where the most recent growth has taken place. Also, on older growth there appears to be dead (brown) trails on some of the cactus skin. Any ideas what this is, or have I correctly identified it?
Thanks and peace.
My capitate carpophore was so ellipsoid it made her sporulate!
It's hard to tell really without a picture, but if you have mealy worms eating under the skin of you cactus, you'll want to find them and dig them out and let the wound callous over. Try adding some salt to the wound to facilitate drying.
If it's not you'll want to try swabbing the area with alcohol
