A fingernail is about right. I use 1/3 petri dish for a large spawn bag which holds five to six quarts. RR

I sometimes use 2 little wedges just to get a couple of inoculation points in my jars to speed things along, but I'm impatient!

The more wedges you inoculate a sterile substrate with, the faster colonization'll be.
Create more inoculation points when inoculating sterile grain mediums with multiple live culture wedges of agar by shaking the grains just after inoculation. The same principal applies when inoculating sterile grains with a single culture wedge.

Does it make sense to cut up a bunch of small tiny pieces, say 10 the size of 1/4 a finger nail? that way when you shake it all up you have a ton of innoc points? or does that risk more contams?
I'm just thinking on the spawn bag side, if you have 6 qts worth of spawn, I'd want that to go faster without that shake at 30%, I prefer to do my only shaking right after inoculation
