FP's 1/2 gallon jars....

Hey all, it's been a while, I know. I took a break from the fungi scene and have just decided to try again, only this time with extra gusto! I purchased a Series I flow hood (too lazy to mess with making one,) petri dishes and a slough of 1/2 gallon jars. The jars have me a bit stimeyed. Seeing as these jars are bigger I have questions as to the air exchange. FYI- they have 110mm, plastic lids. About what size hole(s) should I use for proper gas exchange in these brutes? I searched, but no-one has covered this as of yet. Come to think about it, i recall RR mentioning something somewhere before, but you must know how that can be!
Danke in advance!

I use 1/4" holes for half gallons. If you lay them sideways they colonize better, more surface area for gas exchange. But mine generally do just fine standing up.

Yeah, just one, I use regular grain lids. ...but don't try to start half gallons with spores or agar, you want g2g.

Ahhhh, ok, thanks for that. I guess I would've had a big contam issue on my hands. I have 30 of those jars to do. Guess I'll have to get some regular jars and filters then. I have time. I'm still setting up my flow hood and clean room. Maybe I'll document this better than my last attempts.
Thanks again Doc-T! You da man!

I like pints for grain masters, they colonize quickly and fit well in your hand.
