Chances of isolating a non-fruiting strain?
    #14294970 - 04/15/11 12:44 PM (10 years, 6 months ago)

Hey folks,

I have searched around for this, but I was unable to find any recent information.

What are the chances of isolating a non-fruiting strain through selection of the most rhizomorphic sectors?

I guess I find this kinda hard to believe that one could get a rhizomorphic, yet non-fruiting stain, especially with already domesticated cubes.

i think you dont have to be afraid of finding/selecting a non-fruiter.

you must have really bad luck.

are you looking for one ?

No, of course not.

That would suck if I did.  I think I am just going to go for it.  I just need to decide if an isolate or MS would be better for outdoors.

If you isolate a bunch of strains down to a single sector, the chances are very good that you'll have a non-fruiter or two and a few more poor-fruiters.  That's just the way it is.  It's made up for by the fact that by testing them all, you'll end up with a super strain or two as well.

Don't put all your eggs into the rhizomorphic basket.  You can easily get most strains to go back and forth between cottony and rhizomorphic mycelium simply by controlling the nutrient load and/or moisture content.

What about making only a few transfers from the most rhizomorphic sections?  You wouldn't have an isolate, but you would have a generally more rhizomorphic culture.
