the spores so far seem to be dark colored.. maybe black or brown but i'll wait longer to get more prints.. the gills are very dark brown and some light brown.. they seem to be very delicate because some pieces tear.. they are obviously bell-shaped.. very slender and small.. they grew on grass in southern california.. it did rain last week and the weather's been fresh and moist to a bit warm throughout the days.. so far all I know is that they are a Panaeolus genus but the species is difficult to pinpoint.. but the reason why I'm asking is because i'm going to arizona and I was planning to try them but wasn't sure if they are safe to try.. any help or tips work.. and if I try one.. will I know if it contains any psilocybin or do I need to try a few to get the effects..?? thanks in advance

Surprisingly, wikipedia got that one right. Also, that looks like a mixed collection to me in pic no.1. There are some with an exceptionally meaty stipe for P. papilionaceus. Maybe a few Psathyrella in there as well. Anyways, the whole collection is inactive.

They are either Panaeolus cinctulus or Panaeolina foenisecii.

Panaeolina foenisecii does not contain psilocybin, Panaeolus cinctulus does contain psilocybin.. P. papilionaceus may or may not.. if not mild hallucinations.. So it's safe to say.. maybe not edible but not toxic.. maybe worth a try.. thanks for you guy's help.. here are some prints if anyone is curious about it.. thanks again..

Yes, definitely Panaeolina foenisecii prints, blurry or not. That is not charcoal black.

I am not meaning to be like, totally freaking out about the radioactive fallout or anything, but if I were you, even if these were active, right now I wouldn't want to be eating them. Half the veggies grown in Cali now are being tested for fallout along with the milk and I'm not saying it's going to kill you....but yeah.....from the government: "No it's okay like drink the radioactive milk and water n stuff, cuz like, we calculated those risk values based on you living 70 years..." um...k, I think I'll make my own decisions about how much radiation I want to eat (which is as close to none as possible)...

I see.. there are just too many coverups and i just don't know what to beleive.. I just don't believe what the politicians say because half of what they tell us are lies so we can feel comfortable and safe.. who knows.. we might all have been drinking radioactive water for weeks now but they wont tell us that until "leaked" information gets out and will have to either tell us more "half-truths," deny the whole thing or tell us that we all must be quaranteed.. the government likes to "protect" and control us in any way possible so we can depend on it.. but don't need them.. we shouldn't really be worried and just live life.. cool post though.. but as an amateour, studying these common mushrooms will help me identify them from other shrooms for whenever I find more again

There is absolutely no risk whatsoever in any mushroom growing in California from the Fukushima incident currently. This is very easily confirmed with a basic understanding of radiation combined with test results from independent labs.
Here is radiation data from wild mushrooms in Alameda collected by a research group at my university with people in it who are in no way government stooges: http://www.nuc.berkeley.edu/node/2525#mushrooms
You would have to eat a HUGE number of mushrooms to get an amount of radiation even approaching that of a plane trip.
