Growing mushrooms in a tree

I can't find anything other than what people have seen and wanted ID'd but I have this tree in my backyard and it has a nice hole, produced a lot of fruit every year, too much to eat really. I understand that having mushrooms in the tree might take them from the tree itself but would it be possible and/or cause the tree to die?
Here are pics of it:

It looks like there is a mushroom growing already inside of it, you can see the cap in the right side of the hole but I didn't inspect yet.

Chances are those are wood eating mushrooms. May not be safe to eat, carefully I.D. first.

I don't want to eat it I want to grow my own in there. Can I add a substrate in there, provide all necessary things and put a pf cake in it? It gets indirect sunlight in there, keeps high humidity and is getting lots of fresh air. I just don't know what I would need to do to protect it and provide for it.
And do I pull that mushroom out if it's eating the wood? that's not cool this tree is over 70 years old

That mushroom would be eating rotten wood or something in there that's already dead, most likely. I don't know if you could treat that hole as a fruiting chamber or not. It'd be cool if it worked, give it a shot and post pics.
To prepare it though, I'd dig out whatever's in that hole then replace it with moistened verm or perlite. Don't know how you'll expect to manage high RH if it's outside unless you live somewhere unusually swampy.

Thank you for your assistance. I was thinking of stuffing the sides with big pieces of cotton you get from petco for hamsters and stuff and soak them everyday, maybe get some perlite all around the sub cake and under it and put water in it but I'd rather just keep it biodegradable.

Sorry, no valuable advice here, but I'm really curious to see how this goes for you if you decide to give it a shot. I have a vision of growing ghost fungus in this giant maple tree and a big mossy stump in my yard. Like you, I do have concerns about the relationship between the tree and fungus, especially the non-native clash. Mushrooms growing out of trees just look so pretty.
Haven't found much info on this during my search engine binges. Please do keep a log if you move forward with this idea.
