Low energy during the day

I have been a night owl my entire life... Despite years and years of fruitless attempts, I can not change my sleep schedule. Because of this, I have very little energy during the day. Other than caffeine, what is something natural that I could use for energy? I exercise almost every day, but only have the motivation to do it at night time. Any tips?

Lately I have been eating good foods and exercising... but I can only exercise at night because that is the only time I have the energy. soon I will be working at the hospital, and I have to be there at 7AM... For the past couple months I tried getting on a regular sleep schedule but I was just getting even less sleep and having even less energy.... For weeks I would get up 7AM... STRUGGLE to stay awake the entire day... Then even after being SO tired and exhausted by night-time, I would get a boost of energy again and not be able to fall asleep until 3AM.
This continued and I wasn't able to get to sleep at a normal hour... At the time, the lack of sleep caused a lot of psychological irritations.
Maybe it's something I am missing in my diet? For breakfast I eat eggs and toast... for snacks, I eat fruits and veggies... and for dinner I eat chicken, hearty salad and fresh veggies.

Eggs for breakfast is no good. You don't need protein first thing in the morning, you need carbohydrates...try eating the fruit, veggies, rice, muesli, honey, nuts in the morning and leave the eggs for later during the day.
As mentioned above, try to eat as much RAW food as possible. That gives you alot of energy.
One of the most powerful ways to tune your biological clock back to normal, is sleeping in nature for a few days...when i go camping i always get tuned-in to the rhythms of the earth.
Use relaxing herbal teas at night and do something that makes you feel sleepy (reading a book does it for me)
work out in the evening if possible.
Eat maca, shiitake mushrooms, and make Reishi tea or use an extract. (Paul Stamets has good stuff).
Try to sleep in a calm and clean enviroment and make shure its totally dark.
Burn some relaxing essential oils every now and then. You can rub a small amount of lavender oil on the sides of your head. Or put some hops inside your pillow to help you sleep at night.

Do you consume protein powder after your workouts or any other time during the day?
Do you take a good multivitamin?
If not, I would recommend these. These two things made the most noticeable differences in my energy levels. I accidentally bought an extra gallon of milk a couple of weeks ago so I decided in order to use it all up I'd start making protein shakes with it. Then I started running regularly with the nice weather and making protein shakes afterward...and holy smokes do I have energy...I seriously feel like a whole new person, it's amazing.
I've also changed a lot of my mental habits in the last few weeks. I don't know if these preceded my abundance of energy or if my energy caused the change, though. I've become a shit ton more positive in my life, being happy "just because," which I think is making a big difference in my energy levels.

I was going through the same thing earlier this year. I work a job where I usually need to be up around 5 am and to work by 7am for a 12 hour shift. It used to be easy to do those shifts but I started getting burnt out. Not only that, but I was always exhausted. I became very depressed for a while because after I got out of work I didn't have energy to do anything else. I was highly irritable and I was driving all my friends and my boyfriend nuts with my negative attitude.
So I decided to rearrange my life. I take a multivitamin everyday. I take Reishi mushroom extract. I've been eating a lot more raw foods and my diet is a lot more diverse. I cut out coffee. I joined a gym. I walk my dogs almost everyday. I am always on the move. I never realized how many hours I could be productive in a day if I had the energy.
I also have tried to meditate a lot more. A positive attitude has a lot to do with energy. Are you mentally exhausted or physically exhausted? It is important to recognize the difference...
How does your body feel? Do you ache anywhere? What you are going through could have something to do with a vitamin deficiency.
If I eat something with protein and potassium after a work out, I feel very good. Just a suggestion. Also, working out is a great way to start your day. If you can muster up the energy is is very likely to give you energy throughout the day.
Best of luck! I hope you find some energy, soon.

have you tried supplementing with melatonin? many people use it to help with jetlag. it may be useful for your situation, or atleast something worth trying out. It costs <5$ for a bottle. I use 3-5 mg
