Galindoi mycelium overlapping bacteria contam
    #14289236 - 04/14/11 10:30 AM (12 years, 9 months ago)

hi people,

this plate of MEA was inoculated from a wedge of ps. galindoi and it grew a spot of bacteria contaminant (yellowish slime, circled in red) while mycelium was still developing, though it successfully overwhelmed the contaminant spot.

IYO, is the mycelium surrounding and overlapping that bacteria spot more resistant to contamination or isn't it any different from the other isolates? (not clearly seen in pic, but there are 3 iso on the same plate)

That is awesome.  You could take a sample after sometime to see if the mycelium actually breaks down the contam.  You could take the sample directly from the middle of the the known contaminated area.

In my experience, that is nothing strange. Probably nothing special with that isolate.

Very true, many types of mycelium will overtake bacteria in a petri dish.  It's a bit harder in the three dimensional space of a grain jar though, and very rare when mycelium can overtake mold spores and kill them.
