To those renting -- A wake up call - READ * 1
    #14288805 - 04/14/11 08:14 AM (12 years, 9 months ago)

I assume some at least of you rent apartments.
I don't know what the laws are like in your country regarding insurance.
But in Canada at least if you are renting you are not required to have tenant insurance.
But in the case of a fire or something you would lose all your items.
Because apartment insurance for the building only covers damages to the building. Not your personal items.

Last friday my apartment building caught on fire, some idiot kid lit his parents bed on fire.
Fortunately only 4 apartment units were destroyed, they were able to contain it and put it out.

I never had tenant insurance, been renting for 3 years and nothing ever happened to me. You always think it will never happen to you.
But I could have lost everything that day.

The people whos apartments were destroyed did not have insurance. Everything they had is gone.

Talking to the super it seems a lot of the people don't have insurance.
Its pretty cheap, 20 bucks a month for me. Obviously I have it now.
But if any of you don't, don't tempt fate. Shit happens.

Seeing the building go up in flames :feelsbadman: especially when you know you have no insurance and you will be out on the streets if your place is destroyed.

Especially important given the fact the there are plenty of stupid people around and children raised by said people. Glad to hear you avoided damages. I hope no one was hurt.

People didn't know this?

I had like 80k of coverage for $14 bucks a month when I rented.  Sorry about your loss.

Fortunately I did not lose anything.
When i first started renting I had insurance.
But when it expired I never renewed.
I am getting 30K for 20 bucks.
Plus 2 million in liability.
And 20K for water damage.

Words of wisdom.

Insurance companies do serve a purpose other than screwing you over people!
