An encouragement post for noobs like me - Mazapatec * 1
    #14287616 - 04/13/11 11:35 PM (12 years, 10 months ago)

Greetings shroomerites! :hi:

Just wanted to post for anyone having trouble with their first couple attempts. It took some practice, but here is a second bulk attempt with some decent success. Don't give up! :super:

Many thanks to all of you who knowingly and unknowingly contributed to such splendor with all your wisdom and experience.

there was some suspected trich that never turned green (after 4-5 days), so this project is spent after only one flush instead of risking keeping it around. Here is the post if you want to read about it or view pre-green trich.

Very impressive.  What a beautiful sight.  I am planning to start a mono tub grow and I am a super noob.  I have done a lot of reading... well I did more reading than I even want to admit on the PFtek, and am in the process of success with that.  Now I have a few bags of rye grain colonizing right now.  My question is... do you let it completely colonize in the bag and then mix it really good with the compost in the mono tub or just lay it over top and then spread a casing layer?  Do I wait for the rye to also colonize the compost before casing?  I really hope I could have half of the success you have had.

:thanx: for the kind words

Yes, you want to get 100% colonization, and then let the spawn sit for a few more days and up to a week before spawning to bulk. This post-100% period is what people refer to as consolidation - the same "rule" applies to bulk. The day before you spawn, you want to pasteurize your substrate and then mix in your spawn the next day so you know the substrate it cooled. I prefer to mix the spawn because I like to think it increases the amount of inoculating points in the substrate thus increasing colonization time, but some prefer to layer it. Regardless, you definitely want to get it covered with your substrate, not leave it all on top.

Here is video showing how to spawn a tub if you are a visual learner like me :super:

On casing, I've seen some people say you can put it on the same day you spawn to bulk and others say wait until 100% colonization of your bulk before applying it. "late-casing" is what that is called, I think. You should double-check on this because casing is not anything I have experience doing. A lot of people say it is unnecessary and others won't ever grow without using a casing layer.

hope this helps! :peace:

Oh... that is awesome.  The videos for PF helped tremendously, and now this.  Thank you so much.  Good luck with everything you do man.  This was a great grow, and I'll check back to see more of your mushroom porn.

indeed, there are some very experienced people to learn from floating around these parts. :levitate: Still so much to learn... just getting into agar, and it is amazing. I'm very excited to soon transfer some clones and start isolating.

monotubs = win. they are so low on maintenance and produce like crazy :wow:

Beautiful results!
Thanks for sharing and inspiring Ryath.

I just totally effed up my first monotub attempt
Not giving up though because I know tubs like this are possible, plus this hobby seems to be very addictive.

Many thanks!
Don't feel bad man. My 1st few projects were horrible as far as yield and contams, but I learned so much about what was happening and why. I think without those failures, the above would have not been possible. :super: And yes, it is very addicting!
