I saw someone mention it looks like wet white sand before it starts sporulating. 1. Is this true? 2. Is this what is pictured?

thanks

if its starting to pin, then yes you can put salt paste on it long enough to get your flush out of it...if it hasn't even started to knot or pin then i wouldn't worry about it.

I like to refer to it as looking "as if someone sprinkled wheat flour on your trays", but yeah. Good thing you caught it before it turned green. And yeah, there is no remedy for the evil green. Scooping, salting... if anything it'll delay the inevitable outbreak for a day. Paying attention and catching it before it turns green and then immediately tossing it is key.

I think salt pasting is just about the worst technique anyone ever came up with.
It sucks the water from the sub and creates lakes of saltwater on the surface.
You can accomplish the same thing with any other inert substance like sand or tile grout for example without creating a salt-lake.

thx for the tips all. and yeah... I didn't see any point in waiting until it started sporulating after bio confirmed my worries. I'd rather not add 64 trillion more spores to the 32 million that are probably already floating around.
like mentioned above, it felt like raping a patch but oh well, at least some 2-4cm babies were picked.
GK, I'm glad I caught it early too! Noob-syndrome of gazing through the tub every 2 hours has paid off!

I had planned on moving this substrate to a hole in the ground, and in the meantime, I wrapped the whole tub tightly with plastic-wrap. I didn't find an opportunity to bury it, so for 2 days after the OP here, there was no FAE, little to no evaporation, low ambient light, and I expected to see green within this time frame. I became curious, but by the end of the second day, I began wondering if it really was trich in there, so I decided to replug polyfill and get some light on it.
most of the posts I've seen say the green shows within 24 hours and I found RR saying 4 days at most. anyone have some additional insight on this?
here's current pics

would hate to get rid of that even though it held shitty fruiting conditions for 2-3 days and has probably stunted their growth.
thoughts?

If I were you I'd put the tub far away from where you do all your work, fruit, and incubate, if you're still worried about trich. But let those bad boys fruit!!!! Looks like the beginning of a beautiful flush!

thx for heading over from Q&A
I'm with you on that 1st step. I moved it as soon as biologys posted above.
The flush, I think, lost a lot of its potential being outside the fruiting area for a couple days, but we'll see what happens. You have any opinion on those OP images?

Well the tub is it's own fruiting area... a micro environment. The only thing that might change from moving it from the original spot is the air circulation where it is now and the lighting. But if those are the same as where it was, then it should have the same environment inside the tub. In regards to the OP, I think it would've reared it's ugly green head by now.

yeah, the light source and air flow were pretty much gone for 2 days. put it back into light and FAE mode. here's current... still no green.
maybe it was just some funky-looking mycelia in the OP?
