so i have an event i want to go to, and my jars are like 98.32 finished, but i was wondering, if i kept them out and exposed to light halfway through consolidation, or no? i'm leaning towards no, but ya never know! thanks

That's always worked for me. And sometimes if you light them on ACCIDENT while they're consolidating they'll pin even if you don't want them to.
EDIT: Wait, are you talking about taking them out before they're consolidated? No, don't do that. That's fucking retarded.

no, haha, im keeping them consolidated. i just want to trigger pinning halfway through, so when i birth them, they are almost pinning.
if i wanted them to pin like, right after birthing, or as close as i could get it to, when should i introduce them to light?

So they've been in the dark the whole time?
Cubes don't need to be kept in the dark during colonization, that's outdated info since proven wrong. Light does not hurt colonization at all, and in fact helps. Slight temperature differences during light/dark cycles will help GE.
Yes, light is a pinning trigger. However, until the mycelium has decided that it is done growing (ie; the remaining substrate is either too dry or starting to go bad) you won't get any pins until after 100% unless you birth, wash off all uneaten substrate and dunk, then into the FC. And wait at least a week to see anything happen. Meh.
I don't birth until I see pins, and the jars get normal ambient light from the beginning. Unless the myc is going to be used to spawn something else, I've had far better results waiting for invitro pins; better pin-sets and faster, fuller flushes growing as soon as they are out of the dunk. When I used to follow the "100% +7 days", I'd have to wait a week or more to even see a pin. A couple more days in the jar makes a big difference.
Go ahead and let them get light. Seeing as they've been dark the whole time, it may give them a little boost. You're probably a little more than a week or so away from seeing pins, so just hang in there!

so your suggesting i; 1. just keep my cakes in my jars until I see pins? 2. birth, dunk, blah blah... etc. what about the other pinning triggers, such as evaporation, and FAE? those wouldn't be present in jars. or do you go with the idea that whether or not the environment in right, mycelium will eventually pin regardless, just take more time?

Yes to 1 and 2. Regarding the other triggers: Yes, but... The pins that form invitro will not be the only ones to form. By a long shot. I wait until I have 3-5 per cake, then birth. They've just barely started, so care is needed in the washing and dunking.
Once the cakes hit the FC, the other triggers kick in and whamo. 12/12 light, good HR and fanning from then on. 15-25 shrooms per cake, on average. Give or take.
Seeing invitro pins is more like a trigger for the grower. The cake says "Hey, time to birth me!"

I just realized that I may be taking my 12/12 hour light for granted. My jars are under my FCs, so they get ambient light from the start. Hm. I'd imagine that when yours get light, they will be encouraged to finish up the food and start pinning.
I think I've seen side-by-side comparisons of dark vs. light colonization on here someplace. Let me see if I can find it.
