Or you could achieve happiness by making the necessary changes in your life?
Get those feel good chemicals flowing through your brain again, workout, eat better, take less/more drugs, drink less.
My drinking and subsequent hangovers are one of the main factors why I'm not happy all the time. Still working on cutting down, just noticed the two weeks I didn't drink I felt a lot better,I've just slipped back into the pints now. It should be said that even when I'm not that happy I'm still laughing at things though.
Laughter is great for it too as you all know.
Even forcing yourself to laugh can get things shaking again.
see, I cut down drastically on my substance use and I started to feel better. Then, after a few months, I remembered why I smoke & drink I think that moderate substance use is definitely the best. There's a difference between using a substance to feel good, and feeling good and using a substance. You know what I'm saying? Let's be real, sober life gets pretty boring sometimes. It's nice to get trashed/baked when you feel like it.

I think there's more truth to this than almost anything else said in this thread.
Am I happy? I know I'm not UNhappy, but I'm not exactly bouncing off the walls. I try to keep myself ingrained in my hobbies, it gives me something to think about. I think boredom is the cause of most peoples unhappiness today, and they're only bored because [hippyrant] most of our generation has been raised on TV and vidya games, and we feel like our stimulus has to come from outside for some reason. People don't have imaginations anymore, people don't like thinking "what if," people just don't like being people anymore. [/hippyrant]
So, I brew beer, I grow mushrooms, I ride my bike and I go to work. When I have a free moment, I write. Outside of that, I don't have time to be unhappy. I mean, I can, but I've got all this shit to do, sitting around moping about how my life sucks doesn't get jars nocced up or beer bottled.
Kinda weird, really.

And shrooms are good for depression.
Too bad I've only done them twice.
When I have my own place I'll start growing.

too bad you don't know me I give'em away for free to my buds.
I took too many shrooms in too short a period of time, and now before I dose I get such bad anxiety that I have to sit and meditate for about 30 minutes to calm myself down enough to dose. Then, EVERY time, I think to myself "wow...why was I worried"
anyway, I agree that unhappiness stems at least partly from boredom. Whenever I get a chunk of time off I start to feel a little useless by the end

I'm happier than I've been in many years, right up until my mind distracts me with, "Wouldn't a self-sustaining house on a couple dozen acres be great?" Then, shortly after indulging in the fantasy, I'm back to the cycle of, "Once I get ________, then I'll be happy! I gotta go make more money!"
I'm getting better at seeing the pattern and breaking it,

Oh,I wouldn't condone going off things completely but just to cut back. Maybe if you need to but you'd know that yourself. I'd smoke everyday but not all day,you know?
I usually like to have a fresh mind during the day but if the weather's nice

I do exactly the same as you but more... I still get bored . My brain never takes a break it seems. I don't think the bottling fascinates you that much that you just put up a bland... or don't you think?
But other then that you're completely right, external stimuli is what most people expect these days.
Like money! Pfftt what's a career and a large pay out. It's the knowledge itself that you need! That's what keeps me thriving

You're a hero and a trooper. I do the same thing. Spread the love. I also like to teach people how to grow, but it's such a weird subject to broach with most of my friends here (I just moved)

Dude I get THE SAME THING. It's the whole reason I don't trip that much anymore (it's been over a year since I tripped on anything). I'll have to try this once my next batch gets done growing.

Let's not make any mistakes, sir. Bottling is boring. Brewing and everything else relating to the hobby is fun. I "get through" the shitty parts, but I'm always grateful I've got something to do.

Hehe yeah you're right, occupying your time with anything that will deliver something in the future is great. It's a great hobby by the way, i've distilled here and there in a lab. I decided to spend this weeks money on getting started for real though.
Well it's either that or other creations of chemical substances
Anything in particular you still?

I feel like this is all people do their whole lives...chase this dream of having more and more and more, but what happens once you get everything you ever wanted? True happiness doesn't come from having things. Our society has brainwashed people into thinking that money & things are all you need

I don't actually distill, although I'd like to. Hell, I've got half the equipment I'd need already. I make beer at home instead, because I like beer more. Not much of a drinker, weirdly enough. I do like a brew now and again though.

in my opinion happiness can be caused by two things
a) realizing your dreams
b) detaching yourself from your unnecessary dreams

For the small fee of 99p per day you gain a set of life goals, some morals, a deity to worship and some whack explaination as to why the fuck we exist and what were are supposed to be doing here.
Comes complete with a false sense of self righteousness
