Why dry?

I was wondering, does drying mushrooms make them more potent in any way? Are the active alkaloids absorbed better through dried mushrooms than through fresh ones? When I eat mushrooms, I usually eat like maybe two or three grams for a moderate trip, which from what I've learned here is about on tenth of the weight of fresh mushrooms. So twenty or thirty grams of fresh mushrooms. I like the taste of the mushrooms, but I would rather eat them fresh for their texture, if I ever got the chance (I want to cultivate my own someday). 20 or thirty grams doesn't seem like that much to me to eat. It might be, I'm not sure what 20 or 30g of Mushroom looks like.

Fresh taste better, drying is for storing.
I dont think their is any difference in potencey.

Yea, it's always nice to eat fresh mushrooms, but they go bad kinda quickly if you don't dry them.
They just don't store well if not dry.

No, I know that. What I'm asking is if I have my own fresh mushrooms, and I divide the weight by ten to determine how hard I'll trip (30g/10=3g=appx.1/8oz) then is there a point in drying them, or could I just enjoy 30g of fresh mushrooms like a snack and trip as if I just ate 3g of dried mushrooms?

Theres a chemical that breaks down when dried and it is better to eat them wet for this reason. I think it is Psilocin and psilocybin will survive drying???? I dont remember the exact details.

this.
but you gotta have the stomach for it. every time i feed my friends shrooms i make sure theyre dry. they gag really bad when they try to eat em fresh.
i kinda like it, but i can see why they wouldnt. there comes a point when youre chewing fresh shrooms that the consistency is comparable to vomit. mind over matter though. i think they taste better fresh too.

People dry them primarily because they are easier to store this way. (It's also less to eat, easier to grind/capsulize, etc.)
Fresh mushrooms last a couple of days to a week. Although you can preserve fresh mush in honey or alcohol.

I thought the honey thing was a myth.

I just never get the chance to trip when I have fresh on hand. So storing is the only option as I don't really want another perpetual grow.

I guess that:
[Erowid Note: Storing fresh mushrooms in honey can lead to excess water in the honey, which can result in either rotting or fermenting. Caution should be excercised when ingesting fresh mushrooms stored in honey.]
Never knew that.

My understanding is that mushrooms contain four chemicals that are supposed to be active; Psilocin, Psilocybin, Baeocystin, and Norbaeocystin. There isn't much info on the latter two, and I'm not even sure if they are known to be active in their own right.
However, psilocin (4-HO-DMT, NOT n,n-DMT, otherwise it wouldn't be orally active) and psilocybin (4-PO-DMT) are. Psilocin is more fragile than psilocybin, and to the best of my knowledge, when mushrooms bruise blue, that is a mark of psilocin having oxidized. Psilocybin is much more stable and actually gets converted to psilocin once you ingest it.
Therefore, I think that fresh mushrooms are more potent because less psilocin has oxidized when they are fresh than when they have been dried. How much more potent they are than dried depends on how the dried mushrooms were handled, dried, and stored.
That's just my understanding, anyway.
