I'm another Noob growing Shiitake (and too many others). Is 60 degrees F. low enough for a cold shock?

I think not, I just put it in the fridge at 3-5ºC for a week or so, and after that take it out of the bucket and put in fruiting conditions. But I really don´t know if I'm good. It also depends on your strain, that is to say if your strain likes more cold or more warm, I fruited one without cold shook at 18ºC  better explain it someone with more experience...

I have cold shocked my blocks(Only 3 so far) outside during the day
while the temperatures are around 35-45F. I place them out each day
for 8-10 hours before bringing them inside as the temperature drops
at night. This has worked for me thus far.

That's the classic sign of over-supplementation.  Try to reduce the grain or bran supplement for your next grow.  Ideally, you'll have thin stems and large caps.  Remember, we only eat the caps.  Shiitake stems are tough and inedible, and a too-nutritious substrate tends to cause small caps and large stems.

:super: Lesson learned  when I made this block I had never grown any mushroom, this block and few cakes are experiments for training ahead of next season. Woow here It's hot to death! today reached 37ºC, high temperature can make mutants too?

Yes.  Be sure to let them dry out well before picking though.

OK, when it is dry I must give it another cold shock?

No.  You only cold shock once.

 I seen worms eating myc, the block look spongy full of galleries. And a colony of fast flys going out of another block of straw.  :butcher:

Great job on your first grow!  Consider next time letting the bag sit for longer than 1 month.  Let it get brown.  It takes about 2 months, but it is worth the wait.
