Hey guys! First post here.
I've only experimented with one hallucinogen (DXM.Friday night. Still feel spaced out and shitty.), and have been really wanting to try mushrooms. Due to my unemployment, I can't buy any. So I figured I might as well just hunt for 'em!
I live in Whitfield County, Georgia which is right on the Ga/TN border. Is this a Weilii growing area? I looked at some of the maps, but couldn't tell.  If it is; is April too early to start looking? Also, what are some general types of places one should look?
Thanks!

Cow poo. It's a bit dry right now, but look for Panaeolus species. The are coprophilic saprotrophs (meaning the like rotting grass and poo). I would recommend you look on/by horse and cow poo. also, just lurk and research here for a while, you'll find some interesting information about mushrooms. use the search post feature and you'll find all sorts of info.

This too. I've not been successful, but that hasn't stopped my search!!! I recommend you READ A LOT about mushrooms so you don't die as Galerina are out, too.

Alright, cool. And as I understand, forests with lots of rotting pine trees is a good place to look?

For Psilocybe weilii, yes.

For Psilocybe cubensis and Panaeolus species, poo is the habitat. Also, it may be a bit early for Panaeolus cinctulus, but not P. olivaceus as I have found a few fruits here and there. Also, Panaeolus olivaceus does not grow directly out of dung as I have foudn. Look for heavy grass on slopes above where water accumulates. Also, well watered lawns are a good place to look for Panaeolus species.

Loblolly pines and sweetgums.  Those are the trees under which I find all my weilii.  I have yet to find a spring weilii, but I hear they exist.  You will find them in well fertilized lawns as well.

Rotting pine trees from pine beetle infestation in deep woods are also a large source of weilii.  I have also never found deep woodland weilii, but they definitely exist!

The weilii in my sig are the first cluster I ever found.

Sweet. I'll have to go hunting soon.
Just wondering; how exactly do you go about sneaking through peoples lawns?
& I thought Cubnesis didn't grow in north Georgia?
Good to know.

I haven't tried lawns, but there are threads on lawn weili hunting tips. You may have to read thoughr the "Official 20XX weilii Thread" to find some info You'll have to dig around some. Also, from what I hear golf courses are a good place to look so long as they don't mow it anal-retentively. I know people give you a funny look (especially when there's no sidewalk or they're outside) when you look in their yards, but I just keep my eyes down.

Here's one thread

Also, since subbs are most likely coming with the next big rain, here's a guide to hunting Panaeolus cinctulus (subbaleatus/subbs, not subs which are completely different)

EDIT: I also just remembered after browing that guide myself again, that brand new lawns are primo spots. You can walk around new subdivisions acting like a potential buyer and NO ONE gives you the a raised eyebrow.

I beg to differ. That cube was found in Floyd Co., only one and a half counties below us. they're kind of rare cause it gets really fucking hot and dry in the Summer time, but when moisture and heat combine with spores at the right times, anything can happen.

Another N. GA find

I see, cool. For some reason; I could've sworn someone on here said the Cube growing line was like Atlanta or something. Good to know.

Jah. Also, the bit about the I-20 line or some shit has been said before (I think it was in one of those weilii threads) but don't believe them. Geography can play a big part, but environmental conditions play the biggest role.

In short: where there's been lots of rain, look for shrooms in according habitats, take good pictures of them in their habitat, make a spore print and compile the info in an ID request.

EDIT: Also, do keep in mind hunting, like many phenomena in life, is a hit or miss thing. I've found a patch only to find it shat upon or the fruits gone hours later or the next day. A cow actually kicked one of the markers for one of my patches so I had to spend a bit of time looking for that patch again (mind you the space I'm talking about is only about a couple square feet and it still took me a bit to find them). One more thing: I've only dosed up once cubes I grew from a syringe a very good friend (who is no longer with me :frown:) and have been looking for like three years ever since. In time it's like they come to you instead of you looking for them.

1.) What exactly is the point of a spore print?
2.) After taking pictures of where they've grown, can I remove them and take them home? Or are some too poisonous to even touch?
3.) These mushrooms should have easier to remember names. >_<
4.) When people talk about growing from syringes, what do they mean?

1. There are many uses for a spore print. One, when done on glass, clear plastic (such as overhead projector film), or aluminum foil, a spore print allows one to accurately determine the spore color, a key identification feature which often allows one to narrow the identification of a specimen down to genus. Spore prints also allow spores to be transported easily so that a professional may examine spore dimensions and morphology to sometimes determine species. Often other thins such as gill samples are needed for difficult to ID specimens, but I wouldn't worry about that at this moment. Color is you primary reason for concern in this respect.

2. It would depend upon the stage of the mushroom's growth if they look undeveloped, wait to pick them until you can see gills easily. This also allows you to photograph the development of that fruit body over time if you please. As to handling mushrooms, they're not really toxic to handle with your hands (though I try to thoroughly wash mine after handling unknown specimens, or I occasionally bring a pair or two of latex or nitrile gloves to handle them iwth), but don't start eating a meal after handling anything. It's pretty straight forward.

3. That's one reason why we use names like cubes and subbs, it helps to make them easier to remember. Also, I kinda find it more difficult to remember some of the common names than the binomial ones. Also, it'll get easier over time as you get used to reading and remember them. I remember spending an entire summer in between semesters to study this. I scoured this forum with the search post feature looking at pics, reading about characteristics,  and practicing at ID'ing them.

4. Teaching this information is the function of this forum. but here's a video if you want to learn
#

You can also learn from RogerRabbit's video, Let's Grow Magic Mushrooms!, But I won't post the video here as respect to him and his copyright. (it's not difficult to find)

EDIT: Also, in regards to that sort of thing, good luck getting spores as you/I live in the shittiest state in the U.S. for spores!!! Basically unless you know someone in TN who has a mailbox or P.O. Box or you have a license as a resident of TN to get your own P.O. Box, you, like I am, are shit out of luck. No shroomery sponsor sells to people in our state.
