I'm a believer as well. The new testiment, the one with real good graphics and that rage against the machine song totally converted me. and to believe i use to be a non believer and think king kong was real ffs.

Do you believe in the FSM too? Why not?

oh, brilliant point diploid i'd never considered the flying spaghetti monster. Man I've read all of the God Delusion by Richard Dawkins and at the time I agreed with every word in it. Then, through a meditative practice, I experienced God, and now it's just not a question of belief it's a question of memory. Leave your pet arguments behind my friend, they're not helping you in any way.

Good job not answering my question.
Then, through a meditative practice, I experienced God
Or through a quirk of human psychology and and a manifest death anxiety, only imagined you did.
Leave your pet arguments behind
No. Don't tell me what to do.
they're not helping you in any way
Believing in fairy tales is not helping you in any way.

no man, that's so weak to say that i experienced god through fantasy and death anxiety. That argument sounds so juvenile to me I can't even tell you. here's what happened. I concentrated on my being, my "i am" for like the whole 5 hours i was lifeguarding. I got ridiculously into the moment, sort of like tripping but totally sober. I was not past or future, just now, my mind was very quiet and i was very happy. That afternoon, any time i turned back inwards and focused on my being, i would feel blissful and at peace. Later in the night, after I'd been drinking and smoking and totally left the "i am" awareness, I was hit with that same bliss. Only this time, it came from far away in time and space, literally it seemed like it was coming from the stars. It was my self, but very removed and cosmic, and it seemed to be telling me that everything is ultimately okay, that the universe loves me. You think I'm lying to you?
As for the FSM NO i don't believe in it as anything other than a creation of human imagination cause I haven't experienced that, and it's not nearly as fundamental a concept as God. If you can equate God with the FSM, then you have no idea what people are talking about when they say God. Trust me, they're talking about something.

You think I'm lying to you?
No. I think you're deceiving yourself.
As for the FSM NO i don't believe in it as anything other than a creation of human imagination
That's what god is, IMO.
Tell me something. Do you think suicide bombers are lying to you when they say they meditated (just like you) and got ridiculously into the moment (just like you) and turned inward and experienced bliss and love from far away and felt god come to them (just like you) but unlike you god told them to blow up in a crowd of innocent people?
Do you believe they experienced god when they experienced those things?
If not, why did you experience god but not them? I ask because from where I sit, you two appear equally likely to have experienced god, if such a thing exists. You even use the same language, imagery, and metaphors.

woah you got me. JK! Yeah I totally think those people could have experienced cosmic consciousness, there's no reason they couldn't have. I'm sure they didn't recieve instructions from the Godhead to blow up buildings, but they may have been mislead by their leaders. There's no rules to this stuff man, plenty of people have experienced God and are still fucked up, although generally I'd think it's a good sign.
The only evidence I could give you that i'm not deluding myself is that in the days and weeks following my experience, a gradual understanding of what had happened set in all on its own. I didn't have any true explanation of it after it first happened, other than the first night when i had a hunch about my higher self. Spiritual awakenings are very very real man. Read up on it

Diploid, give some evidence that God DOESNT exist. Guruu has all the evidence he needs. He experienced it and hes happy about it. You have experienced nothing about God therefor you really dont have a say in it do you?

I think the main problem is calling your experience God. People automatically associate it with their definition for God. I call it oneness with everything. I think that makes it harder to misinterpret. The experience of successful meditation would in this case be a diminished connection with who you are and a amplified connection with everything a.k.a God. You can never fully be one with God by my definition until you die. I could be wrong. You might actually mean a sentient being that maybe exists. I doubt he does though .

Have you ever studied elementary school level logic? My guess is no.
You have experienced nothing about God therefor you really dont have a say in it do you?
I've never experienced the Tooth Fairy. Guess I'm not qualified to render an opinion on her non-existence either.

They claim they did. Why is your claim any better than theirs?
plenty of people have experienced God
Eye witnesses are the single least reliable reporters of experience.

Guruu, you admit frequently you have no logical arguments, just "inner experience." You do realize this forum is for debate right? What are you doing here?

keepin it real
Philosophy forum needs a level up, really bad. Debate without experience is like two blind men arguing about which painter is better.
