I know how you feel, my dad had triple-bypass (open heart) surgery a couple of years back. It happened very suddenly, and the surgery was so urgent (he was in the midst of a heart attack) that I didn't even know what was going on until he was getting operated on. I've thought about how close my family was to losing him and your situation really hits home for me. My dad didn't have high cholesterol either, it was the high triglycerides paired with enormous amounts of work-related stress that took him out.
All you can do is do your best to trust the surgeons who are going to fix him up. You're doing the right thing by going to visit him while he's like this too, it'll be a good thing for your family to be all together regardless of the outcome. Let us know how it goes.

I hope the best for you, my grandpa recently underwent quadruple heart bypass surgery. Thankfully heart operations have come along ways even for his operation the risk was only 2%. I obviously don't know the difference in time between your father and your grandfather surgery but I would have to imagine there is still much lower risk involved with it. Hope the procedures go flawlessly.

Sorry to hear man. Make sure he has a good surgeon, and let him know you'll be there for the entirety of the situation.

I had a triple-bypass fairly young (at 42) a while ago and came through with flying colors.. While it's certainly cause for concern, the survival rate is about 95% or so. It certainly made a very positive, profound effect on my health.

It runs in my family too, hence the bypass at 42. But try to relax, he'll probably be fine. The surgeon is very well versed in this sort of thing (they don't let just anyone do these things, you know). And you really should quit smoking - that aggravates the build-up of arterial plaques.

I wish you and your father the best of luck. He'll make it through this.

yea my dad had quadruple heart bypass surgery when i was 16. he had three arteries clogged 90%+ and he pulled through. so i understand the worry your feeling. It really in the surgeons hands and if he is pretty healthy overall he should not have many problems.
MY dad got struck with a lot of depression after though because he lost the ability to work, its best to be there for them and really cherish the time you are given with him before/ after he comes out.
Sending you nothing but good vibes man. keep us updated
