Can i just add distilled water to a 1:4 mix of verm/Hpoo until field capacity and fill up a tray with it and cook in my oven at 170F for a couple hours and let cool and spawn? Seems like it'd be a way quicker/easier way of pasteurizing.
Or should i add distilled water after the oven so it doesnt dry out the substrate.

If you're going to go this route , I'd add the water after the oven . That way you'll know the moisture content is right . Some of the water might evaporate if you mix it before baking .
If you don't want to use distilled water , you could just boil some water , let it cool , and use that .

This would work, the traditional pasturization method sounds a lot easier to me. Takes out the extra step of rehydration.. plus I barely even watched the temp when I boiled my poo. As long as its on a low simmer for a couple hours you'll be fine. To each has there own though.

If you bake it, it will stink.

Ya nvm then i did some reading and heat from water is way different than heat from air and if it makes it stink then nvm. Im just going to add distilled water until field capacity and put into a bag and tie the top and let soak in 170F water for a couple hours and let cool and spawn.
Should i do it differently?

Sounds good to me.
You don't have to use distilled water though. Tap water right out of the faucet will work just fine. And make sure the center of the bag/substrate is 160-170F before you start your timer.

Only thing i'd do different is not waste my time/money using distilled water.
And I'd do a lower temp. 140 is sufficient, costs u less energy.
Oh and if u do that method, u kinda need to squeeze it real well or it'll be too wet.
140 is the core temp of the substrate btw, not the water temp. U need to measure that, not the water temp.
