Dieters worldwide defy physics
    #14277010 - 04/12/11 09:08 AM (12 years, 9 months ago)

Met an acquaintenance at the gym last night. He is big, strong guy, but carries at least 50 extra pounds. He explained to me that he hardly eats anything at all and is still getting fatter.

Talk to almost any overweight/obese person and you will hear similar stories. "I just look at food and gain weight."

If we could only harness this ability to get something for nothing, to overcome the Laws of Thermodynamics, our energy crisis would be solved overnight.

I am thinking: human-sized hamster wheels.

On a more serious note, at my gym there are about 40 people on treadmills or similar machines during peak hours. All that energy turns to heat which must then be cooled using additional energy. Seems incredibly wasteful. Treadmills should be hooked up to small generators.

idk if it would work with treadmills since the belt has to turn or ull just run off the front... but those stair stepper things and the stationary bikes... should TOTALLY be used to create elec.

think the gym could run all its lights/cooling off of the stair steppers/bikes?

I agree - lets pay fat people for their extra weight and then turn it into biodeisel

What are you trying to say? Are you nitpicking the way he said those words, by not being ultrascientificly presice?

I have a lardy friend who I have personally seen throghout many days that he eats far less than me, and I am skinny. Of course, he eats something, which means that the laws of physics do apply.

Have you thought about how much energy really is in food, and how your body processes that energy? How much a normal person shits in a day, and how much lard and energy could still be in that shit? How much energy do you spend on thinking ie making your heart pump more blood into brain, and how much you do physical activity, and how are those two balanced?

One thing I have noticed in gyms: People walking on treadmills. Like, wtf are they thinking? They do even LESS work than walking on normal static ground, mostly just letting the feet to be dragged... Turn the treadmill off, and walk or run then, it is painful, but muscular developement comes from placing body to extremes, pain comes with it.

Why do skinny people pick on fat people?

That's exactly the reason he is getting fatter.
Some people think the way to lose weight is to starve themselves which is totally ass backwards.
If you wanna lose weight you have to eat.
What you eat is more important than how much you eat.
When you eat your metabolism kicks in but if you don't than your body will think it's starving and will store fat.

Maybe the dude doesn't eat much but drinks a lot of beer.  Beer has a lot of calories and if he doesn't take that into account he could get fat from the beer.  Cause even "light" beer has alcohol and alchohol has lotsa calories.  Lotsa.

If I am reading you correctly, you are advocating drinking copious amounts of Jack Daniels instead.

Aye. :yesnod::thumbup:

However if you prolong the diet, your body will eventually have to start using that storage of fat to function.

Which is why you should eat less if you want to lose weight.  No metabolism in the universe can turn x calories into x+1 calories.
