the grateful dead movie kicks ass
its a movie made by jerry and the crew during i think it was a 69-70 tour.
it's like 75% concert footage, 20% psychedelic crap, and 5% fan interviews
its fucking awesome

it is fucking awesome indeed. but it wasn't from the 69-70 tour. it was filmed in October of '74 at the Winterland Arena, the "home" of the Dead. Basically the band was wanting to put on a few shows in late '74 as a kind of thank you/potential farewell to all of their fans. they weren't sure what the band was going to do after '74 (continue on or call it quits) and wanted to go out with a bang.
it's a great documentary as it shows the first "jam band" scene in full swing. there's this crazy scene where there's a dimly lit room full of tons of people getting extremely fucked up on nitrous. smoke a little then go watch the film. you'll dig it.
oh and here's a link to a great show from the Fillmore West on June 7, 1970. Acoustic first set (check out that Cumberland Blues. is Phil wailin' on a standup bass?), electric second set.

"We are all intoxicated. We were born into an insane asylum, a world crazy-making. We believe what we see and hear. The real myth is the myth of sanity, of rationality: it's a disease that is eating away at the earth. All the poisons flow from our denial. We deny madness, we forget our crimes, we dismember the corpse, we imprison our children. We need poison to poison the poison, to remember the sacred nature of intoxication, the green body of the young god." ~ Dale Pendell

http://www.archive.org/details/GratefulDead
When you find a show, click on it and go to the concert listing. Then just change the URL your browser shows (for example: http://www.archive.org/details/gd77-05-08.maizner.hicks.5002.sbeok.shnf) to have the word <download> where it now says <details>. Download all the vbr.mp3's. Presto.
