It looks to me like you have found some Gymnopilus luteus. Those are active. But I will say that I am still trying to learn the genus myself, and I may be wrong.

They look just like the ones I've picked this weekend.

I tested them last night and they are active.  I dosed 17 dry grams in a tea.  Very nice to say the least!

These gyms are everywhere.

they're not G. luteus

a couple people in Florida have found these recently, believed to be Gymnopilus palmicola.

could you guess what kind of tree it was?

unfortunately i cannot. it was wicked rotten and i'm not that great at identifying trees to begin with. i can tell you that it was definitely not a palm like shroomgatherer's and mcganky's finds.

Yeah Gymnopilus palmicola if they were growing from a decaying palm.

You will start seeing them all over the place now.  They seem to fruit and flush quite a few times more than they do in the north.  Multiple flushes FTW!!!

Sweet finds :mushroom2:.

I thought the palmicota has a red cap not yellow orange like the luteus?  No expert just trying to clarify.  Cool finds bloodworm. again man.  Was it from the same patch as last time?

thanks man.

same area, different location. the others were growing from a root, while these were growing about 500 ft. away off of a fallen tree.
