So, I thought some of you might find this interesting but I have been playing around with some diff agar recipes lately and I think I have found something you can add to make the myc happy.
I used the recipe in this tek: http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/7081785#7081785
but added 2 tablespoons of Cream of Wheat to the mix. The results, the plates with the cream of wheat colonized almost twice as fast as those without. Also no contam issues whatsoever. I don't want to say this is a new awesome discovery or anything yet though because RR might come in here and say it's been around for years, was just a coincidence, or that I'm just a jackass :P
But, food for thought.

right on thanks for the post, I thought about using straight malt a meal as it has everything that you would find in the MYEA, minus all the bs. worried thought that it would cause probalems and clump though, but if the cream of wheat worked I see no reason why. I've been playing arround with Sweet Potato agar and check this out.

Oh I also forgot to add that I ran the cream of wheat through a coffee grinder before I added it to the mix just to break it down a little more so the "grains" didn't expand too much. Had no problems with clumping whatsoever. Give it a try. Malt a meal should work the same.
P.S. That sweet potato agar looks NICE. Good job bro

I think milled grain agar medias use an infusion extract of said meals, not whole form added to the gelling agent.
if you check out the main recipes of CMA it uses an infusion of 50g of corn meal which is then filtered and added to agar to 1L volume.

Please do! I know this may be similar to other ingredients but we're always looking for alternatives in this hobby
