    #14272066 - 04/11/11 12:20 PM (12 years, 10 months ago)

When I spawned them they smelled great!! Last couple days they've started to smell real bad, what do I do? pick the good ones and toss the rest of the cake?

yeah, you may not have a propper fruiting chamber, usually that 'rot' is still water

I was misting heavy... last 3 days i've been light... There isn't any standing water right now, but how do I fix this? I'm fanning hourly now, holding on the misting atm, but will still mist tonight I think.

Ideas?

How long should one actually fan for? Fanning session: 1 minute, 3 minutes?? How long should I stand there and fan?

Get a Vics cool mist humidifier you'll never have to worry about fanning :-)

Just mist 3 times a day, not too much until it seems like it is moist, not damp. There should be moisture on it, then fan for a couple of minutes straight. It's all in the feel, there is no directions I have found for misting or fanning. At this point I have no idea what one would do so I will just bump it for someone else to see

if those were my cakes and they smelt bad and looked like that, I would pick the mushrooms that look good, toss everything else,  clean shop and start over.  thats just me though judging by your pics.

I would make sure I have a shotgun fruiting chamber that is built properly and fan more next time.

I mist and fan about 5-6 times a day, and sometimes a lighter mist depending how much moisture is on them.  Never standing water,  and I Fan pretty heavy after I mist to dry a lot of the moisture (said to be a big pinning trigger).

The reason I was misting heavier was due to the fact that these type of wbs cakes dried out way too fast and I couldn't keep them hydrated last grow.
My sgfc is built fine and I've been using it for a while with plenty of successful grows.

I'm fruiting out the good babies and gonna toss the cake after. It's all good, I have hundreds of bulk cakes colonizing as well as more jars of colonized grains. I'm not worried, thanks guys

Yes, mist and fan, the sgfc just gives great  conditions, but misting and fanning are still required
