Should I bother continueing?

I made an bit of an experimental substrate mix, mainly brown rice flower and vermiculite, but also some honey, hay and poop just for experiments sake.

I packed it into the jars pretty loosely, and steamed them for just over one and a half hours. I just took them out now and noticed that inside many of the jars, the substrate has expanded and there is very little "airy spaces" in the mix, if any at all. I've heard it's best to have these spaces for optimal mycelium growth.

So what do you guys reckon (and any idea why this happened)?
