Talking monkeys?

For monkeys to speak of truth is hubris of the highest degree. Where is it writ large that talking-monkeys should be able to model the cosmos? If a sea urchin or a racoon were to propose to you that it had a viable truth about the universe, the absurdity of that assertion would be self-evident, but in our case we make an exception. - Unknown Quote.

That is an ad hominem. The validity of a proposed truth is independent of who states it.
An urchin or raccoon's truths would not be absurd if those truth were consistent with available observation of the world, explained how those observations come to be, and withstood experimental tests of their validity.

Can you define what you or your quote mean when you use the word truth? Until then i'll just assume you mean truth = knowledge/knowing.
So are you (the quote you posted) saying that despite not knowing anything we are still able to survive as individuals and as a species?
I think that the fact that we can live out our lives knowing certain 'truths', such as that we need sustenance to survive, is good enough for me to say that we do know things about the universe. Do we know all the truths of the universe? No but that isn't really important imo.

Not really an ad hominem. More of an ad procyon.

the absurdity of the urchin's claim lies not in its claim but in your claim that an urchin could even make a claim. If an urchin made a claim it would change our understanding of urchin and this might result in a less than obsurd proposition

I dunno about raccoons, but I had a cat talk to me about the universe when I was really stoned under a kitchen table once.

well I am reserved about the absurdity claim: I have both sessile urchins and yappy raccoon types in my bloodline, back a ways, mind.
