Looks like you have to grow your thumb nails out to play that kalimba.
I'd like to get one but I'm not keeping my thumb nails long just to play it.

Apparently those hang drums are next to impossible to purchase.
Here’s why: It turns out that a couple of guys in Switzerland — Felix Rohner and Sabina Schrer — design and produce the hang themselves. Judging by what I’ve read on several other blogs and forums, these guys are only willing to make a “handful” of these instruments every year to order through their company, Panart.
Looks like they have several alternatives that are readily available. This one looks and sounds great and you can get one for $375 shipped in about a week. I really wanna take a nice dose of shrooms and sit in a quiet candle lit room and just zone out on one of these thangs.

I'm totally jealous of you. How much did you pay for it? Looks like those run about $600 after shipping which is way out of my price range. I'm having a difficult time deciding if I want to pay $375 for the Hapi drum. I'm sure it would be worth it and even if I get bored with it I could sell it on ebay or something.

Just short of $500 dollars (including shipping). on Ebay. They put one on every month or so, and you can save a few hundred dollars of the list price if you're lucky.
The reason I went for the 1Tone over something like the HAPI is because it has a very similar design to the Hang. Sort of like a 'my first Hang drum'. And I figured it would be a good training tool, if nothing else, for should I ever manage to get a real Hang. But even under its under merits, it's a beautiful instrument.
I hear very good things about the HAPI though too. So if you can scrape the cash together, go for it. I'm sure you'll enjoy playing it. And like you say, if you don't. You should have no probs passing it on via eBay.

I love percussion instruments! The only nice drum I own is a 12" djembe, a legitimate hand carved drum with goatskin head. The bastard is pretty heavy for its relatively small size, but the sound is monstrous. I just came back inside from playing actually.
After trying several instruments (piano, guitar, etc.) I think drums are for me. There's something about creating rhythm that is truly magical, like tapping into the subconscious mind or something. I've played a few Kalimba's, they are pretty cool, but what is really awesome are tongue drums. They have an actual name but I forget what it's called.
the video isn't the greatest but these instruments are lots of fun but very expensive. Think $300 minimum for one with 4 - 6 notes...
