gypsum questions
    #14272732 - 04/11/11 02:36 PM (12 years, 10 months ago)

So I have a few simple questions about gypsum...

So far from what I have read there are two ways people utilize gypsum for cultivation:

A. Add it directly to the bulk substrate during pasteurization/sterilization

B. Soaking grains/spawn with gypsum added in the water prior to inoculation of spawn

So...my question is...what's more beneficial overall? Or should I just do both? How does soaking grains in gypsum water benefit them? Why do some people prefer 1 over the other?

Also...

When I prep coir this is my recipe: 1 brick coir/1 quart verm/1 quart coffee grounds/1/2 cup gypsum...is that enough gypsum per brick?

Yeah, simple questions I know, but I wanted some input..

thanks for any feedback~

i've been doing both.
soak and simmer wbs in gypsum and weak coffee.
mix some in with my coir and verm as well.
the amount i use varies, as i'm trying to find
what works best for me. i've been using about a cup.

I do both as well. Toss a bit in with the grain soak (helps prevent grains from clumping together if they happen to get a little starch-y and adds a bit of calcium and sulfur to the grain) with some diluted coffee, and also toss a bit into the substrate mix.

Your substrate recipe sounds good too. :awesomenod:
