A. Pantherina?
    #14270602 - 04/11/11 03:11 AM (12 years, 9 months ago)

I will not have a picture until tomorrow. I'm sure it's an amanita. They are thick and meaty. There's about a dozen scattered accross 5 sq feet. It's growing by the roots of an evergreen, and it's by a busy street (from what I've noticed, the big amanitas seem to love car exhaust).

They look a lot like the A. Muscaria, only it's has a solid brown cap. They all have a lot of warts. The warts are white, flaky, and more or less flat.

I've never gathered A. Pantherina's before, and I don't want to mis-identify any. What else could these be?

edit:
Pictures are in a later post of mine, on this page.

Naw, you can eat them just like A. muscaria. Some say they are even better. Personally I'd eat neither.

Because 1) my stomach doesn't handle them all that well. A. muscaria gives me projectile vomiting, I don't think A. pantherina would be much better and 2) because the type of high is not much my cup of tea.

i saw a video of a shaman eating 3 huge A. muscaria which he said he properly prepared. and in the comment section a guy left a question if yellow ones are safe and that hes eatin a brown one before with no effects and the shaman replied that the brown amanitas will kill ya. idk if its true or not but i still would stay away from it. especially if u dont know how to properly prepare them cause i already think many people know it gives you convulsions. :bouncey:

None of what you guys describe sounds like any fun!  I've heard conflicting things about Muscaria ingestion.  Mainly that you get acute sleepiness and vivid dreams.  Ive also heard it can make you pretty sick, sweaty, and teary eyed.  Has anyone on here had a "positive" experience from Pantherina or Fly Agaric?

Not.  The most toxic Amanitas are either white or a more greenish-yellowish shade of brown.  There are edible brown Amanitas including A. rubescens and A. franchetii.  Because it takes some experience to ID these, and given that the Amanita genus includes very toxic species, and because even edible Amanitas can make you ill if they are not prepared correctly, it is not advisable to eat them.

OP, if you don't post a shot of what you found we won't know what you have.

Wow, 13 comments ^_^. I'll post the pic tonight. The dvd is called "secrets of soma". I'm downloading the torrent now.

Everyone mentions preparation. As far as I know preparation is just dicing them up, cooking them in a frying pan with a lid and lots of herbs like ginger. Storage is just drying them at 220 deg or something. Eating them raw can cause brain legions (physical damage). There's lots of resources on the shroomery as well as erowid for finding out the chemicals involved, prep, trip reports, etc. I don't think that identifying amanitas should be any more dangerous than another genus like agaicus, or psilocybe.

I'm kinda hoping to have a rough trip. So long as I'm comatose and not causing trouble. I wouldn't recommend doing this one for fun, any more than I would recommend pcp for fun.

Yes, in low doses they are similar to GHB.

Umm... hippie boy didn't mention this in the video, but raw amanitas can cause brain legions. The ibotenic acid hasn't been converted to muscimol in uncooked/non-dried ones.

I am going to scrape off the spots and try smoking them though =P
